I am trying to use a Quantum Untrium 2 tape drive in a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine to recover files from a backup made using ntbackup. I have installed the Tape Redirector software on the server; configured it to present the tape drive as an iSCSI interface. My client (virtual) machine is running Windows XP SP3, and can connect to the iSCSI target using either the Microsoft iSCSI Initiator or the StarWind iSCSI initiator (I have tried both).

With NTBackup on Windows XP I can read in the file list from the tape, eject the tape, retension it and so on, but when I try to restore a file from the tape it fails with this message:
Error: The device reported an error on a request to read data from media.
Error reported: Invalid command.
There may be a hardware or media problem.
Please check the system event log for relevant failures.
There are no messages in the Windows system event log. I have attached the Tape Redirector log the entries from 17:35 onwards are a typical example of the problem.

Seems you did not update the registry on initiator side.

Anton,

No, I haven't played around with the registry on the initiator. Can you give me a clue as to where I might find out about what I need to do to the registry?

Thanks.

Here we go:

http://www.starwindsoftware.com/forums/ ... t1089.html

Unfortunately we do run on server and not on client so cannot control packet sizes - you need to take care of them yourself. We'll insert a banner into last wizard page however.
