Hi, we are running Windows 2012 with the Hyper-V role
We've installed the Taperedirector software on the Windows 2012 server and configured the Tape Redirector for iSCSI.
The Tape Device is recognized and installed in Backup Exec 12.5 on a Virtual SBS 2008 server.
But the device stays Offline in Backup Exec.

What are we forgetting or doing wrong?

Yep that's the first thing we tried.
and yes it goes online until the next job launches or we do a service reboot.
So it LOOKS online but actually isn't... :(

Hmm... for me it looks like Backup Exec issue. Have you seen this thread on Symantec forum?

Hi, I doubt that is the problem
We P2V'd our SBS and it was working perfectly before...
the only thing that changed was SBS => VM and tape via tape redirector...

To be honest I think that this issue is related to Backup Exec. Have you tried to contact their support?

not yet.
we will uninstalle the taperedictorsoftware and install the backup exec on the hyper-V and do the backups there.
this is taking to long :( and I know the backup exec support and that even takes longer :(

We'd be happy to help but w/o your contribution into troubleshooting the issue it's not possible. Good luck with "old school" solution.

Hi Anton,

I cant yet install backup exec 2012 on a 2012 server, so I created a totally new server Win2008R2 with all the latest updates and installed Backup Exec 2012 onto it...
I attached the tape via iSCSI and let Backup Exec install the drivers.
Still the same problem. the device is always offline...

any more ideas that I can do or test? or is it now time to go checking the starwind redirector software? Maybe I did something wrong in the configuring of the device/software...?

Start with providing us with a StarWind logs. And make sure you don't have any app on tape side controlling tape drive (keeping handle on it open).

Hi Anton,

first of all best wishes for 2013.

Did you happen to have received an answer from the responsible engineers?

Thank you!

It's national holiday here and I'm in totally different time zone myself so no I did not yet. They failed to find any reasonable data
in StarWind logs and now building more or less the same setup to see what's going on. Is there any way to have a remote shell on your pre-configured system?
