Hi there,

I don't if I'm correct here.
I'm using the free Starwind Initiator and Taperedirector together with Backup Exec 12.5.
The Tandberg LTO2 Tape drive is connected to an Windows 2003 SP2 Server and get'S redirected via Taperedirector to an Windows 2008 R2 Server.
On the Windows 2008 R2 Server I using the Starwind Initiator.
Backup Exec says often that the Tape drive is offline, I can put it online without any problems in Backup Exec.
Someone can give me an advice what I can I do to solve the problem??

Thanks Peter

1) Try using MS iSCSI on the client side.

2) Grab the log from StarWind side and send it back to us. So we'd see is this target, network or other connectivity issue.

Is it possible for you to connect to this drive locally (exclude iSCSI in this way) and to see if the issue will reproduce?

Thank you

No I can't, it's an internal SCSI tape drive on an older HP Server and the new Server has just SAS

It is possible there is a problem between the Platforms of the old Windows 2003 (32 bit) Server and the new Windows 2008 (64 Bit) Server.

Possible, but not guarantied.

We have suspicion that probably it is normal behavior for this device with Backup Exec.

Hi,

i am having the same problem

i have a Dell R710 as my Win 2008 R2 Hyper-V Server

on it i am running a Win 2008 R2 VM that has Backup Exec 2012

i used to have Beckup Exec installed on the Dell R710 and it worked flawlessly.

Now i am using Tape Redirector to redirect the Tape Drive to the VM.

when there are periods of inactivity the tape drive goes offline in Backup Exec

this never happened before.

the tape drive shows that it online until a job starts and i need to bring the tape drive back online manually in Backup Exec

can you think of any thing that can prevent the tape drive going offline.

thanks

jack

i am using the MS iScsi Initiator on the VM that is connecting to the tape drive

i am not sure what else there was i should try.

I did not have this problem when the Backup Exec was installed on the host.

have i missed anything else that i should try?

its a really great product

thanks

to clarify - this only happens whena tape is ejected and a new tape is put in

i have seen this in the log on the server:

11/20 6:00:08.861 1a30 Tgt: iqn.2008-08.com.starwindsoftware:hypserver1.guideclothing.local-lto5: LUN 0 * UNIT ATTENTION (0x28, 0x0)

does it mean anything to you
