Tape copy

Postby gmc_5303 » Thu Jan 24, 2019 1:21 pm

Hello, looking to see if it's possible to import an existing physical tape to the VTL. I'm trying to work around VEEAM's lackluster support for tape.

If I could read the tape into the VTL, barcode and all, then it gives me the chance to migrate it to the cloud (wasabi) as is. It's the concept of P2V for a physical tape. Others and myself have asked VEEAM for this functionality, but it looks like they are not interested in delivering it.

I regret to tell this, by it looks like the functionality you are looking for is not yet there. Additionally, no information is available on whether this is going to be added and any ETA if so.

That's unfortunate, but understandable. That would have helped me get my inventory of VEEAM tapes, and older BACKUP EXEC tapes off of physical media and out to the cloud.

You could check https://www.starwindsoftware.com/release-notes-build for any updates in this direction. They will be listed there if available.
