Starwind VTL - just Virtual Tape Drive(s) ?

Hi,

I have been trying out your VTL product but I am having a few issues.

There seems to be a lack of documentation about this feature at the moment so I have been doing the best that I can, but I can only seem to create standalone Virtual Tape Drives and have to manually load the tapes into them for BackupExec (11d) to use them (it sees them as standalone tape drives). So, I need to know if there is anything I need to do so that the backup software sees the virtual tape drives as a Virtual Tape Library (multiple drives, multiple tapes, etc.) and can mount/unmount the tapes itself, etc.

PS. I am using the StarWind Tape Driver and mounting the 'Remote iSCSI Device' (although it is actually the same box) using StarPort.

Thanks
Chris

Chris,

Yes, VTL functionality of StarWind software only allows creating stand-alone virtual tape drives. Auto-mounting and auto-loading features are cooming in the next releases of StarWind.

Thanks
Rob

Ok, Thanks Rob.

PS. Is there any sort of timeframe for this functionality or is it just on the 'to do' list at the moment ?

Thanks
Chris

Chris,

This feature is on the roadmap, but this is a kind of a "long-term" plan, most probabbly even not for this year.

Thanks,
Rob.
