Service keeps crashing

Postby jamesh » Sat May 11, 2019 12:23 am

I'm sorry if this has been posted before but I couldn't find a solution to my issue.

We've been using StarWind VTL solution for a few weeks with no issues. Recently it stopped working properly with nothing changing on the server, but now we have a StarWind service that will not stay started. In the event viewer, I have the below message any time we try to start the service. Any direction would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

It's designed for NVMe-over-Fabrics targets. It is safe to disable it in your environment.

Okay, thank you for that information I went ahead and disabled that service since it's not needed.

I believe then there might be an issue with the license key I received. I only needed the VTL license so I could enable doing long term storage to disk. When I take the license provided to me after I connect to the server I have starwind's installed on I can no longer add a VTL Device. If I add the trial license back on the machine I'm able to add the device. Should I be reaching back out to the group that provided me with the free VTL license?

With the free license, you can only use your StarWind management console in read-only mode, i.e. for monitoring. You would need to use the StarWindX PowerShell module to operate the server, e.g. create devices and more.
