Problems with Disaster Recovery Solutions and StarWind Software (Version 9.4)

Hi everyone,

I am currently facing several challenges with disaster recovery solutions [https://www.lenovo.com/gb/en/servers-st ... -recovery/] that utilize StarWind Software (Version 9.4). Specifically, we have encountered issues related to data replication and recovery time objectives (RTOs), which have raised concerns about our ability to ensure business continuity. Here are the key issues we are facing:

Inconsistent Data Replication:
Some data is not being replicated consistently, leading to gaps in our backups.
This inconsistency poses a significant risk, as it may leave us vulnerable in the event of a disaster.
Extended Recovery Time Objectives (RTOs):
Recent testing of our recovery procedures showed that the time required to restore systems and access critical data exceeded our acceptable limits.
This delay could severely impact our operations and our ability to serve clients effectively.
If anyone in the community has encountered similar challenges with StarWind Software (Version 9.4), I would greatly appreciate any advice or insights on troubleshooting these issues. Specifically:

What steps have you taken to ensure consistent data replication?

Are there best practices you would recommend for improving our RTOs during recovery operations?

Thank you in advance for your assistance! Your input could be invaluable in helping us enhance our disaster recovery strategy.

The latest StarWind VSAN version is 8.0.0.15554 and the V2V converter is 9.554.
I would assume that you are referring to the V2V Converter. V2V Converter is not a backup or data replication solution. It can be used like this, but it requires user-side tuning to function like that.
Please review the automation settings you've made and align them according to your needs.

P.s. Even if you use VTL FREE, RTO and RPO are set up from the backup software side.
P.P.S. It is not clear what you mean by "consistent" and "inconsistent" data replication here.

Yes, you're correct that the V2V Converter is not a dedicated backup or data replication solution. While it can be adapted for such purposes, it requires manual configuration and tuning to work as part of a disaster recovery strategy. For consistent data replication and improved RTO/RPO, you’ll need to configure and align automation settings properly, especially to integrate with backup software for defining RTOs and RPOs.
