Apparently V8 is out but all I can find is the Virtual appliance edition.

Is the full V8 free version out for installing on Bare Metal Server 2012 and if so where can I download?

Thanks.

There's no Virtual Appliance Edition. There's a unified Virtual SAN you can run on top of a hypervisor (converged) and bare metal (dedicated).

Never mind, I jumped on live chat and they clarified that the Virtual San is the new version and can be installed in a VM or on Bare Metal.

I was just a bit confused with the "Virtual" part as it seemed to imply that it was just a virtual appliance and the bare metal version was different.

VM is not a primary production scenario. We run on top of a hypervisor directly (like VMware Virtual SAN).

What is the significance of the Vmware / HyperV different versions?

Editions would be unified quite soon after initial feedback. Dropdown would be just to keep track on your hypervisor of interest to provide you with a proper content and matching pre-sales engineer.
