What I want to do:
My goal is to have a deduplication volume on local win server 2012 R@, with replication to an identical volume on a remote win server 2012 R2.

No VMs etc.

After reading everything I can find and guessing a bit, I assume that I need to install the 8.0 beta with key, letting it automatically create server with defaults.

I changed the storage pool to drive G (an SSD).

Then I created a target. Then I tried to create a virtual disk using the add disk advanced.

I told it hard drive, size 500 GB (on a 1TB SSD). LSFS, options deduplication and defrag both on. then I hit the create button.

It goes thru all the steps, I think there is a finalize button, when I press that, I get a message that the connection was lost.

I go into services manager, the san service is off, the other twos services are running.

I tried rebooting, can't get the starwind san service to start, error 1067.

ive deleted and reinstalled startwind 5 or 6 times, including removing the program files directory on several tries.

I've tried 512 and 4096 sector size. Ive tried l2 cache on and off (also on another ssd)

the end of the log file looks like this:

I got the target and add device to work using a different ssd raid array on the same server. it did disconnect after finalize, but the service was still running and I managed to reconnect.

the iscsi list shows nothing. I thought maybe I could add an iscsi initiator for the local server through starwinds, but I guess this just shows attachments, so I am going to go ask another tech how to do an iscsi initiator under windows.

stay tuned.

It appears on the systems with >16 CPUs. Is this your case?
