Hi,

Just lost all my test Vm's, Templates, vCenter, xp/7/8/8.1/2k8/2k12 baseimages, VDS, everything because starwind iSCSI SAN started to ack-up.

I just uninstall v8b2 and will try again.

BTW: this is my 3rd time starting from scratch

 :(

after re-install, re-add my 3 LUN's

restarted my server 2012R2, when it came back up, the 2 LUN's that was taking a long time to mount, is now taking a long time to mount again, so this will contiune to happen, unless i delete these lun and re-create them.

But how do i copy or move the info in them to a new lun?

I have a few ideas but one 1 i am looking at is this:

Create a temp target "Temp"
Create a large temp LUN, thin prov. and add it to the "Temp" target
Add the temp target to esxi 5.5, then move/copy the VM's to the "LtempLunDisk"
after that delete temp from esxi library, unmount the "LtempLunDisk" from storage.
Shutdown esxi
Revove/Delete the problem LUN's in starwind iSCSI managemnt GUI, stop the service, then dlete the files.
Just create the LUNs like new and add them back to esxi, move over your VMs then unmount the temp target and delete it.
Add back you VMs to esxi server, then tell esxi to restart to see it it keeps the info.
Your problems now will be vCenter, because you know have new storage.

ANY insight on THIS ?

Fbifido,

I have had similar inflexibility’s, my solutions are very similar:
Create a new Temp LUN
Copy out
Create new LUN
Copy in

LSFS seem tied to the physical media, makes them non transportable, I have not been able to copy/move LSFS container files in my OS failure scenarios, the restore process has been need the same media(physical HDD), need the same matching drive letter. Image files in Beta-1 were more flexible (have not been able to test beta 2). I was able to move/copy image files and restore them. However in beta-2 they seem to be tied more closely to the media as well, and seem to require a 512 sector size on the physical media to work while LSFS will use 4k sector drives, I have had no luck with 4k sector drives and image files, will try a 512 sector drive if time permits.

My problems was that lun's will not mount in esxi5.5, it sees them as dead.
i can mount the LUN's in windows but windows can't read RAW VMFS.
so i could not mount the file system to copy the VM's.

Thanks

OK, we've fixed some issues could lead to data corruption so looking forward you giving a try to our release candidate.
