Hi

Are there SMI-S Providers available to manage the iSCSI Target?

Thanks for the feedback

Not yet but we'll bother our developers with this one closer to Fall 2011.

Hi, Is the any updates on SMI-S Provider?
We're testing Microsoft SC VMM 2012 and want to know if we could use StarWind iSCSI target with SMI-S Provider

Thanks

The link is published. It's preview stage now. We'll have official unified build with V6.

Any update on this? I am interested in using SC VMM2012 with a supported SMI-S provider. Where does Starwind currently stand? Please send me any information you have and where I can obtain a the bits.

Kind Regards,

Ryan

We do work with RTM version of SCVMM. Grab a download link, install SMI-S provider and give it a try :) Feedback is welcomed. More you'll push it - faster you'll see it in production-ready status.

Thanks for developing a SMI-S Provider! Excellent feature! A couple of issues I run into:

1.) limited to a single pool per SMI-S Provider? I would expect to have the ability to connect a single provider to multiple pools.
2.) Each time I conifgure a new Logical Unit in VMM 2012 RTM, my client crashes. The good thing, it actually does create the IMG device within Starwinds. The bad thing is, I have tried this on numerous clients (even from the VMM server itself) and it still crashes. Also, the new IMG generated shows "Total Capacity = 0". I am unable to do anything with this Logical Unit until I go back into Providers and click on "Refresh". Once the refresh completes the new Logical Unit shows the correct "Total Capacity" and can be assigned/deleted as needed.

I am wondering if #2 is actually on MSFT's end. But, I figure I would start here.

Thanks!

1) Could you please clarify on how do you expect it working?

2) Has been fixed with the most recent version. It's a combination of issues from both sides resulting bad synergy. Official SMI-S update should be published real soon.

Sorry for the delay in response.

1.) If I have multiple LUNs created within Starwinds, let's say based on RAID type (LUN1 = RAID5, LUN2 = RAID10, LUN3 = RAID6). I would want the ability to carve space from each of these LUNs within VMM based. Currently, only a single Pool can be assigned to the SMI-S provider. And a Pool = only 1 of the three LUNs. If this is the case, I literally would have to provision 3 VMs to act as SMI-S providers for my 3 LUNs?

2.) Good to hear! Looking forward to it!

Another feature I would think people mat eventually like to see, with regards to SMI-S, is to set LUN configuration options per Pool. Let's say I had two pools. One pool is for fast performance, and the other is not. Pool 1 would configure LUNs with caching, while Pool 2 would configure LUNs with no caching. Perhaps I want to create a LUN for clustering, and then another for no clustering, etc.
