Hello everyone :)

I originally wanted to post in the sub-forum "StarWind V2V Converter, P2V Migrator." Unfortunately, I keep getting kicked out or don't have permission to post there.

Therefore, it would be nice if the thread could be moved. I hope that I will still be able to respond once it is moved.

I have a problem converting a VM (Linux Suse Enterprise 10) from ESXi Host 5.5 to a Hyper-V Host. After conversion, the VM does not boot in Hyper-V.

In ESXi, the VM’s hard drive is set up as SCSI. The converter creates a new Hyper-V VM in Gen1 and attaches the hard drive as IDE. During boot, the error appears that the hard drive cannot be recognized.

I have tried the following:
  • Conversion from ESXi Host to a newly created VM (by the converter)
  • Conversion to an existing Gen2 VM in Hyper-V (hoping the converter would adjust the hard drive parameters)
  • Changed the VM’s (ESXi) VMDK to IDE via SSH access and then converted it to a Gen1 VM
All these attempts were unsuccessful, resulting in the hard drive not being recognized.

Does anyone have any advice on how I can successfully convert the VM to Hyper-V?

Thanks to all :)

Thanks for your post here and welcome to StarWind Forum! Please try converting an individual disk.
Also make sure the secure boot is disabled for the VM.

As of now I've moved the thread to V2V section (leaving shadow post here) and asked admins to turn off the post confirmation thing, people are getting confused, which is bad...
