Hi, I am trying to access an oVirt server and keep getting the message "The host name or credentials are wrong!". I can successfully log in and get a result when attempting the same URL and credentials from a web browser. I have tried both /ovirt-engine and /ovirt-engine/api in the URL There is only a self signed cert on this system though, does V2V converter 9.0.1.848 enforce cert validation? Is there a log location that I can look into to provide more info on the failure?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

Look under C:\Program Files\StarWind Software\ for logs.
I think there might be similar issues earlier on this forum. PLS, have a look.

Thank you for the location. The error is as follows:

9/9 10:10:07.628 69dc Facility ???INFO: WrapperKVM::KVMWrapper::KVMWrapperImpl::Connect: Connect to the oVirt host: https://10.10.18.51/ovirt-engine/
9/9 10:10:07.689 69dc Facility ???ERROR: WrapperKVM::KVMWrapper::KVMWrapperImpl::Connect: HTTP response status code: 201

I tried searching for ovirt and for the specific error but didn't find anything. Can you please suggest a search term so I can find the previous post(s)?

Thank you.

While */ovirt-engine appears to be right. oVirt is strict about requiring a Fully Qualified Domain Name, AFAIK, for access rather than an IP. I guess that's the root cause.
When the Converter attempts to hit the REST API using the IP address, the oVirt server's internal reverse proxy and SSL certificate validation fail to properly match the expected hostname.
Can you try something like admin@ovirt@internal? Make sure that the password has only ASCII characters too.

Thank you for the reply. I tried FQDN first but I did not post that due to security reasons, the result was the same.

9/9 9:19:18.103 4264 Facility ???INFO: WrapperKVM::KVMWrapper::KVMWrapperImpl::Connect: Connect to the oVirt host: https://node1.xxxxxx.xxxxxxx.com/ovirt-engine
9/9 9:19:18.159 4264 Facility ???ERROR: WrapperKVM::KVMWrapper::KVMWrapperImpl::Connect: HTTP response status code: 201

I did try multiple versions of the credential, however logs in the server indicated that admin was the one that was accepted.

Audit Sep 09, 2026 10:15:44 node1 User admin@ovirt@internal Login failed, user does not exist
Audit Sep 09, 2026 10:15:23 node1 User admin@internal Login failed, user does not exist

Password was set to have all ASCII and no special characters.
One further thing, is that the error comes back immediately, there is no timeout, it is an instant error message.

What additional information can I provide that might be helpful?

I think you will need to convert the disk to QCOW2 and recreate the VM in place. I will log an internal case with the R&D team in the meantime.
Please share oVirt version here so we can take a look.
