Mechanics of Live Migrating ESXI to Hyper-V

Hi,

If converting a live esxi VM to Hyper-V, at what point should I uninstall the VMWare tools? I assume after the conversion, but I'm concerned the errors I get once it's converted won't let me startup the VM to remove the Tools. Is this a valid concern? Or will it still boot, just with a bunch of errors? I'm doing this with both Windows and Ubuntu Guest VMs.

Also, this conversion doesn't affect the source VM does it? This will be my first time converting esxi to Hyper-V (I went the other way years ago but they weren't live migrations). I want to be able to turn the old one back on if things go wrong. :)

Finally, it looks like one thing I may need to "re-setup" after conversion is networking. Are there any other pieces of the puzzle that need to be updated on the target?

Thanks.

Welcome to StarWind Forum!
Yes, you need to uninstall the VMware tools. The thing is that if conversion -i.e., data travel to destination - goes well, the issue is not on the V2V side. Sometimes the VMs don't start after conversion because the destination hypervisor conflicts with the VM. This being said, please try uninstalling anything hypervisor specific and try ide controller to boot from.
Conversion does not affect the source VM.

Good luck with your project :)
