I am unable to convert a hyper-v image to VMware esxi 8.2 - i get a popup box with "HTTP Error" when trying to connect to the ESXi box. I tried the other way round and got the same error connecting to ESXI so it is something to do with ESXI.

I have installed ESXi this afternoon from the latest download and not made any config changes.
I have tried with V2V versions 9.0.1.243, 268 and 369 from two different servers

I can't find any google entry for this error.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome to StarWind Forum!
Is it a Free ESXi? Try converting VHDX into a local image and copy it to ESXi afterward.
Having conversion logs will be helpful.

Hi

Yes it is free ESXi. I thought I added that it is on a mini Pc with a vusb network card as Realtek is not recognized. The install fails on ESXi at 73% and I then have to manually reenable network and everything works. As far as I can tell from various google articles this is normal without a recognized network card. I can create and use VMs normally.

As I want to transfer all my VMs from a Dell R670 to two mini PCs it would be a lot easier if I can automate the process rather than convert each machine/disk individually.

Where are the error logs for Starwinds Converter? I will see if I can find any in the meantime.

I am actually wondering why it is using http not https as well.

thanks

ESXi Free does not support the API necessary for VM conversion.
As a workaround, try converting it to a Hyper-V host as a bunch of VMDKs, copy them to the ESXi, and then connect them to the VM.
