I am working to try and convert my physical desktop to a virtual machine that I can run on hyper v

I have tried disk2vhd but it will not finish, it gets to the last tiny bit, I've tried diskchk etc. no avail.

so I have downloaded the starwinf v2v converter but when I go through the options to convert as the manual here;

https://www.starwindsoftware.com/v2v-he ... erver.html

I get to the last screen, convert is not greyed out, I can click it but nothing happens.

The localhost has hyperv manager installed, not hyperv server, does this matter?

I have tried different network connections, different external hard drives to save the file too with tb of storage.

What else should I check.

Hi,

Can you please convert each individual disk for P2V conversion? For VM P2V conversion, this is a known issue, we fixed it in the build to be released. Please stick with the workaround for now. The fix should be there soon. Stay tuned.

Hi,

ok no problems.

yes I will try that shortly, what is the process then for creating a bootable image?

When I have done this before I have just put the path to the image in the field, when converting each disk, how can they be put together?

Sorry, I don't quite follow it.
Please try converting the disk to VHD(X), connect it to IDE controller, and try booting from it.

Hi,

OK maybe you can work with me for this work around, we can do it in maybe 20 posts.

So after selecting p2v

Which option should I pick, disk volume, physical disk or entire machine.

Hi,

You can convert the entire disk by selecting Physical Disk. For more details, you can follow this guide https://www.starwindsoftware.com/v2v-he ... DVHDX.html
