Hi Everyone,

Trying to migrate a VM version 5.0 Server 2012 R2 to Server 2012. Everything has been going smoothly for the most part. However, I am running into an issue with of course the most important server. This server has 8 drives and the first 3 seem to convert fine but than it got to the larger drive and this one failed it continued and the next drive at the moment is converting. I checked the log file and this is what is says:

I was running into this issue with some of the Virtual Machines I did successfully move over. But it would error out at the very beginning because they would be single drives, not 8. To resolve the issue I would run a checkpoint and delete it and the subtrees. After that I was able to move and convert them successfully. I did this before starting this server and since it completed 3 before this thought things were fine and not related. Any thoughts or things I can do now that it failed on the one drive but is continuing? Thanks

Hi

Can you try converting individually any of those disks?

Hi,

I am not sure I know how to convert them individually and then move them over to be mounted as a hard disk. Do I do this with a different tool?

EDIT: Do I just re-run the tool on the Hyper-V and just select the Disk (or disks since two failed) and try running them again?

Hi,

Please select the Virtual disk option. See more at https://www.starwindsoftware.com/v2v-he ... ation.html

Aye not sure this tells me how to do it individually, but I am waiting on the last drive to complete still. Once it is complete, I will try to re-run Starwind Convertor and just select the first disk that failed and see if I can copy that successfully by itself.

Should I delete this hard disk that failed but made a copy still in the destination before trying again??

So the one disk failed again but the other disk completed successfully. This VM hard disk is a little over 2 TB.

Something is wrong with that disk. Can you please see if VHDX is OK (i.e., not corrupted)? What is the VM OS? If it satisfies system requirements, please try converting P2V from inside the VM.

I will see how I can check the VHDX this week. For now I had to delete what migrated from the new server and powered on the VM Node on the current "old" hyper-v just fine and have the server up and running on the old Hyper-V still for now. This server is the most important one too so of course it is the only one of 17 giving me issues.

If I do a P2V this is something that can be done while the server is Live? I would be doing it after hours regardless, but it is a SQL Database (this VHDX volume) so not sure if this would be suitable in my case.

We support "live" VM-to-XXX conversion, but we don't support "live" P2V of at least yet...
