I am trying to migrate Azure VMs back to on-premises ESXi 6.5 server. Using Azure Storage explorer i download VHD disks, then using Starwind V2V converter i convert local .VHD file to remote ESXi server. The covertion goes without any erros.
But i am not able to start the migrated VM in ESXi. VM doesnt see the operating system on the disk:
Operating System not found.

I have tried 2 different VMs - same result. I have tried to upload the converted disk image to datastore and create manually a new VM using that disk - same result.

VMs had windows 11 and windows server 2019 installed. Both were initially created in Azure.

What might be the problem?

Try changing the boot order and specify BIOS or EFI as boot type.

Try converting the disks and try using IDE controller instead of SCSI for boot volume.

It's really hard to know where the error occurred. I did the same thing as you twice and failed.

Did you try conversion in repair mode?
