A search hasn't brought anything back so apologies if this has been asked before.
I'm trying to convert a VMDK to VHD and when I select the source VMDK I am getting:

Error opening file (2) [2]
E:\VMs\CDCT\CDCT_DemoBackup-disk1.vmdk

The only trouble is I do not have this 'backup' disk image. Talking to the person who gave me the image he is unaware of such a disk either.
I've looked through the vmx files and there is no reference.

Any thoughts on how to proceed?

Thanks for your interesting in StarWind V2V Converter
As far as I can see you tried to convert VMware header file of VM. V2V converter tried to find flat file of VMDK but, unfortunately, can't find it.
Please try to convert file-flat.vmdk instead of file.vmdk
