Esxi6 free vmdk to vhdx conversion

Hi,
I'm trying to convert a VMWare ESXi 6 vmdk guest file to HyperV vhdx.
The guest is Server 2012 R2 Datacentre and the VMWare host is running version 9.
The HyperV host is Server 2012 R2 Datacentre.
The vmdk converts apparently successfully but once I start up the hyperv server I get a black boot screen with 'Boot Failed EFI SCSI device' showing.
I can easily mount the vhdx image with no issues on the hyperv host OS , it has 2 partitions the usual C: drive and a 'System Reserved' partition which I can't see any files in.
Is there something I need to do with the guest before running the conversion perhaps?
