BizTalk 2010 Developer Kit - Error opening file (2) [3]

Hi all,

I recently started at a company which uses BizTalk 2010 to develop solutions for customers. Wanting to use the virtual machines provided by Microsoft in the BizTalk Server 2010 Developer Training Kit (15 different VMS, each having a separate VHD, and 2 common VHD's), I decided to rely on StarWind V2V Image Converter, since it had already helped me out in the past to convert a VHD to VMDK.

However, when I selected the file I got the following error: Error opening file (2) [3].

After a quick look on the forums, I saw that it could be due to the fact that there are multiple hdd files. (http://www.starwindsoftware.com/forums/ ... t2564.html)
I follow the instructions there and placed the .VHD files (which I had already converted to VMDK and removed, but converted them back to VHD), in the correct folders. (I think they are the correct folders, the config.xml file gives the default locations I suppose, I had to share my D:\ disk on the network so I could map it to the X:\ as well.)
I also downloaded the build provided by Vitalii, but I keep having the same error.

Any ideas on what I did wrong?

Thanks in advance!

Just an update: I won't be needing this anymore. ;-)

I managed to get the VHD working in VMWare by just adding it to my virtual machine, and then editing the config file to make it appear as an IDE drive and not SCSI. :-)

To start off: I just created a new Virtual Machine (in e.g.: D:\VM\bt10d-demos\Virtual Machine\), to which I added 2 new IDE disks, just to get the config right.
One was placed in D:\VM\bt10d-demos\Virtual Hard Disks\ (which is the location of bt10d-demos.vhd), I called it bt10d-demos.vmdk.
The other was placed in D:\VM\common\ (next to BizTalk2010Demos.vhd and bt10d-allfiles.vhd), and named it bt10d-allfiles.vmdk

After that I went to D:\VM\bt10d-demos\Virtual Machine\ and edited bt10d-demos.vmx, the lines I edited were the ones which contained the location of the .vmdk files. All I did was replace .vmdk with .vhd, booted the machine, and it worked, running from the original .vhd files (it somehow automatically found the BizTalk2010Demos.vhd file which it needed).

This was all done with VMWare Workstation 8.

There are many ways to skin the cat (c) ...

What people are mostly using V2V for is moving VM content from one container format to another without destroying an old one.

That was what I was trying to do (move it from the Hyper-V one to the VMWare format).
I also hoped it could consolidate the separate disk & the common disk into one file. It would give me a bit more overhead, but would be easier to work with.

Although I'm thinking of creating a VM with the main BizTalk2010Demo.vhd, and configure the partial HDD's as snapshots. So I can easily switch between labs (and people who start after me as well)

Well, we are glad that it worked in the end.

I would also suggested you to take a look at this topic from our forum:
