error powering up converted vhd

I successfully converted a vhd to vmdk. Conversion went fine. imported to vmware datastore and deployed new esx 3.5 vm, attaching to the vmdk. It bluescreens on me regardless of the scsi adapter type specified in vmware. Any ideas.
