I seem to get it to work – sort of

Converting the 2tb drive (about 800g used) resulted in a VMDK file that was around 800gb — when I went to mount it there were 4 unrelated partitions and the data from physical drive there but not visible. I got the same results creating a VHD file

Next, I used disk2vhd (sysinterals) and since the drive was 2TB it created a VHDX file — when I tried to convert it to a VMDK it generated this error

12/4 11:27:19.962 4a40 Facility ???ERROR: VMwareFile::NewFile: m_VixDiskLib_Create is fail - 16000, One of the parameters supplied is invalid

My next try was to use my backup software to clone / shrink the drive. So now I have a 1tb VHD file. I was able to convert this 800gb VHD file to VMDK

I hope you can get something from the logs to correct this issue – at least being able to process VHDX files

Thanks for the help

Hi,

I will forward them to the dev team today. Many thanks!
As a workaround, you can create a VM with that file and convert it to OVF. Use that OVF to import at the destination.
You can also try https://www.nakivo.com/blog/how-to-conv ... tep-guide/ or use Veeam for now.

The dev team requested more logs.
Try P2V conversion and attach the disk to some VM. While converting the disk
1. select disk
2. ESXi host
3. Select any VM you would like to attach the disk to.
4. convert.

If conversion does not work, logs will tell us more about why conversion does not work.

No worries.
Try disk2VHD conversion and then convert that VHD(X) with V2V Converter.
