Synched but not synched, how to resolve?

I have a rather odd synch issue that I don't seem to be able to find any information on how to resolve. This a two node hyper-converged cluster that I abused by moving ethernet cables between two connected ethernet switches while it was running. It went into synchronization. When the dust cleared, a...

Managing StarWind VSA Free

I'm using StarWind VSA Free in a non-commercial environment, so I cannot afford the GUI license, much as I would like to. It's been a while since I looked here, so I'm wondering... Has much changed in the 6 to 12 months on VSA Free management? Has there been any new way to get the GUI at low cost or...

Re: License expired, cluster crashed

Pardon for the delay in updating this thread. I want to thank StarWind support for being so helpful in resolving this issue. The problem, in short, was due to expiration of a license I didn't realize I was using (see below). I had originally installed StarWind Free, expecting to have a test cluster ...

License expired, cluster crashed

Today I discovered that my whole 2-host StarWind and Server 2016 failover cluster was down. The StarWind console showed that iSCSI and heartbeat were down. The iSCSI interface show all targets as "reconnecting" -- even the local one. I checked the network, nothing had changed, I was able t...

Re: 2 node HA split brain

I figured in most environments it would be unusual for the network structure to even make it possible for clients to be able to access the two servers independently if the network between the servers was down, so split-brain would be unlikely to be a problem. And Windows Server 2016 failover cluster...

Re: 2 node HA split brain

Thank you very much Michael, that really helps.

One thing: I thought StarWind 3-node clusters already had some some sort of quorum function, does it not?

Re: 2 node HA split brain

Thank you Boris, I would say that KB article is incomplete, but it does appear to confirm one of the failure modes I described. It says: If data can`t be transferred through the synchronization channel StarWind checks the availability of the second node through the alternate network interface, and s...

Re: 2 node HA split brain

Thanks you Anton, pardon my misunderstanding. But I'm still looking for a better understanding: HOW does StarWind prevent split-brain operation in a two-host HA environment? For instance, what would happen if all network connectivity between the two physical hosts were suddenly lost, but the hosts w...

Re: 2 node HA split brain

Let me see if I understand this correctly. Are you saying that a StarWind Free HA 2-node VSAN is currently susceptible to split-brain failure -- having both hosts coming up and running independently -- and there's nothing we can currently do about it? I.e., there's no witness/quorum functionality at...

Re: PowerShell to recreate replica?

Thank you very much, Michael. That explains a lot.

FWIW, I have not been able to find any KB articles or technical papers describing non-GUI or script-based management. All I have found are in this forum and in the download itself.

Re: PowerShell to recreate replica?

Thank you, Michael. But, although Boris has been very helpful elsewhere, in this case unfortunately it was completely unclear to me what he was suggesting. He gave no examples or references, and did not clarify when asked. I had no clue what he meant, until you expanded on it. 1. So far as I can see...

Re: PowerShell to recreate replica?

It looks to me that, in a (Server 2016) two-host cluster, if I stop the StarWind VSAN service on one host, it automatically stops that service in the other host as well! Am i imagining things? Kind of makes me wonder how we are supposed to proceed, if we want to keep the cluster online while taking...

Re: PowerShell to recreate replica?

Okay, it looks like I have a working process for replacing failed storage on one host, without using the SW GUI. And it requires zero cluster down time or iSCSI related commands. Short summary, i had to copy/replace files at host level only, using (a) the metadata files from the failed server and (b...

Re: PowerShell to recreate replica?

Guys, sorry for interrupting your discussion, but I think you forgot about one thing, wallewek. While copying, you have three files in StarWind folder, one *.img and *.swdsk, *.swdsk_HA, header file and headers different for both host. I certainly welcome and appreciate your contribution, PoSaP. I ...
