Re: RAM Caching in V5.0

OK, So write through is safer and faster on reads. Write back is more risky and slower on reads, but faster on writes. I would think that unless you have a very write intensive workload that write through is the best choice, especially if your RAID card has a write back cache with a battery backup u...

Re: RAM Caching in V5.0

I understand the performance difference betwen write back and write through when a client is writing to an image file, but how does this affect reads? There are no settings for read ahead, or adaptive read ahead like on an LSI raid card. Please let me know how the two difference cache options affect...

Should you I run Antivirus software?

Hello,
I am trying to get a consensus if it is a good idea to run antivirus software on a Starwind server? Please let me know your thoughts or current setup.

Re: Usage of CX4 interfaces for better 'LAN' performance ?

I think HA will only marginly divide your work load. Every write to one server will happen concurently on the other server. depending on the number of NICs you use it could decread utiliation on the network.

Re: Usage of CX4 interfaces for better 'LAN' performance ?

We are getting an R515 from Silicon Mechanics. Silicon Mechanics essentially resells SuperMicro chasis and motherboards. We only have about 30 concurrent users, all VMware ESX virutal machines. About 20 machines with a mix of SQL, IIS, Exchange, File and Print. The SQL servers get hit pretty hard. T...

Re: Usage of CX4 interfaces for better 'LAN' performance ?

Just thought I'd throw my $0.02 in. I think the 10GSPF+CU is going to over take 10GBASE-CX4 due to physical size restrictions, and you are correct about 10GBASE-T over Cat6/7 not getting much traction in the marketplace due to power requirements. SPF+ and CX4 also have a latency advantage over 10GBA...

Adaptec MaxIQ SSD

Hello, I am wondering if anyone is running the Adaptec MaxIQ SSD product yet. It is basically an Intel x25-E 32gb drive that you add to any current Adaptec SAS raid card with new firmware and the RAID card starts to cache data on the SSD for increased performance. Its sounds like a greate idea, much...
