Re: Force identify as SSD

Thanks! The main "pain" is that when having multiple ESXi-hosts accessing multiple LUNs/datastores, no hosts can use the LUN when marking as flash in the vSphere Web Client. So I have migrated all VMs to other datastores, (formatted as VMFS6) and marked as flash on one and one hosts. This ...

Force identify as SSD

Is it possible to force a device to be identified as a SSD? It is very annoying that all my devices in vSphere is identified as a regular HDD. This is because the Megaraid-controller is not reporting as SSD to the OS Starwind is running on.

Re: Mellanox Connectx-3 slow writes

Hello! After installing Windows Server 2016 (from scratch), performance was much better. It was a little bit unstable (as in varied between 400-800MB/s in VM), but much better. I'm looking forward to installing a few 40gig cards in my most powerful VMware hosts, and run some benchmarks with end-to-e...

Re: Mellanox Connectx-3 slow writes

The problem was there from the start when installing/upgrading to the new 40gig card. I did try to swap the cards with the same result. I think I will reinstall Windows, just to rule out some driver/settings issues. Will try the driver you recommend. Thanks! I know this is not a Starwind issue, but ...

Mellanox Connectx-3 slow writes

We are having some performance issues in our environment. That is, write performance for one path on one of our SANs. We have a dualport 40GbE Mellanox Connectx-3 for sync + ISCSI and a dualport 10GbE Emulex for ISCSI on each HA-pair. This is a VMWare environment, and all hosts have Emulex dualport ...

Re: Confused about VSAN Free

So for Free version, remote ISCSI is disabled, even if installed on dedicated physical servers?

Re: Confused about VSAN Free

If running Starwind Free on two dedicated physical servers (no Hyper-V etc), are there any limitation on HA ISCSI targets (shared storage for ESXi-servers)

Thanks
Actually, I don't agree here, as the other features mostly help on performance, but missing VAAI UNMAP/DELETE prevents the thin-provisioned volume from shrinking as it should/could.

Re: SW v8 build 8730 VAAI on ESXi 6.0 U1B

Can you please confirm that this is a known issue? (VAAI + LSFS with deduplication). The zeroing is the most important feature for us, but accellerated copy yould also be great.
As mentioned, this works on thick devices.

Re: SW v8 build 8730 VAAI on ESXi 6.0 U1B

VAAI zero works on non-dedupe thick. I have not tested other combinations yet.

SW v8 build 8730 VAAI on ESXi 6.0 U1B

I have done some testing using latest Starwind and ESXi releases. Tests: Created LSFS datastore (dedupe) of 100GB and added to ESXi host. I cloned 3 VMs from a template. Used space did not grow much/at all for the 2 latest clones. Copied 10GB of files to the first VM. Allocated physical space increa...

Re: Mpps switch forwarding performance for iSCSI

If 9k packets (9000 BYTES), what sould be something like 150k packets/s on a 10gig-link.
64 byte packets would max out at 20Mpps for a single 10gig link.
These are single direction numbers, so double the numbers for full dupex. :)

Re: Why use RAID10 if all data is being replicated with VSAN

Well..
If one of the hosts fail (or down for maintenance), I would feel a bit worried for the other node..?
What if the RAID-controller failed on node1, and you had to wait for days for a replacement? Would you feel safe in the meantime?
