Re: LSFS overhead & defragmentation

Also, is defragmentation the correct phrase? Because if it moves blocks from higher up over deleted/free blocks lower down, this could actually create defragmentation in that whereby blocks were possibly sequential on disk, they are now scattered all over the deleted/free blocks.

LSFS overhead & defragmentation

Doing some tests with LSFS - bet you hadn't guessed that :D Created new 500GB LSFS storage on two-node HA and started copying some test files onto it using robocopy via Windows 2012 server/iSCSI MPIO. 228GB of data has been copied: sshot-58.png And there are 275GB of SPSPX files on the server: sshot...

Re: Storage disappears after removing replica

Ahh, I've repeated the crash. I think I've reported something similar before and it's to do with the user interface refresh. You have to be quick but the process to get the console to crash is: Remove replica from node #2 Before the interface refreshes, attempt to remove the replica from node #1 Con...

Storage disappears after removing replica

Is the following behaviour expected? Two node HA LSFS storage1 on SAN90 & SAN91 (see sshot-1) Open replica manager on node #2 (SAN91) storage1 Remove the replica (see sshot-2) Node #2 shows as not synchronised as expected (see sshot-3) Query? storage1 disappears entirely from node#1 (see sshot-4...

Re: Problem with Microsoft iSCSI initator

Yes it is uncommented on all servers. That's one of the first things I had to do when initially setting it up. Heads up - any changes you make to the CFG file are lost during upgrade in v8... I'd probably suggest: Make a copy of the CFG file Upgrade StarWind Wait until all nodes are synchronised Sh...

Re: Different number of LSFS files on the two nodes

They need to check content integrity before allowing you to export it. Possibly as the sync is faster. After a controlled power cycle, the nodes do not come back up and you have to do a manually mark one of the nodes as synchronised (see other thread) and when you do this, you end up with different...

Still shouldn't report itself as vSphere version.... the previous build didn't. Cheers, Rob.

Re: Different number of LSFS files on the two nodes

Another observation: upgraded node #1 to latest build and obviously node #1 was offline during the upgrade. Post upgrade and node #1 is resynchronising. Why? There is nothing to resynchronise - the two nodes were in sync before the upgrade and there are no targets currently connected.

Re: Different number of LSFS files on the two nodes

NOTE: the above is with build 6884. I'm going to upgrade to 7185, re-create storage and try repeating.

Then you should get rid of the Sync and Heartbeat checkboxes.
Agreed and already reported by me. Think it's fixed in latest build.

Re: Different number of LSFS files on the two nodes

Okay, this is repeatable... Two HA nodes running Windows server connected to LSFS storage via iSCSI Clean shutdown Windows server and check iSCSI disconnected from both nodes Shut down node #2 Shut down node #1 Power-up both nodes Storage is offline on both nodes and doesn't automatically resync (li...

Re: Different number of LSFS files on the two nodes

I'll check this again, but I'm pretty sure that this is occurring in "normal" operation. I've re-created the storage yesterday and copied a few GB of files via my test server and there are different numbers of spspx files on each server. All I did I think this time was shutdown the test se...

Re: Description is incorrect on the StarWind service

BTW - are the executable the same for StarWind for Hyper-V and vSphere? The following two buttons appears to download the same executable: sshot-57.png Both buttons download a file called starwind-v8.exe with a file size of 33,972,448 bytes. Cheers, Rob. PS. Yes, I was checking I downloaded the righ...
