Re: Lost my Test Infrastructure

Fbifido, I have had similar inflexibility’s, my solutions are very similar: Create a new Temp LUN Copy out Create new LUN Copy in LSFS seem tied to the physical media, makes them non transportable, I have not been able to copy/move LSFS container files in my OS failure scenarios, the restore process...

Re: StarWind iSCSI SAN Version 8.0 Beta-2

Storage Pool and Image files don’t mix, but lsfs do work? There is no direct Feedback that the creation of an image file did not work until you review the log file. It appears incompatible with advance format drives? Or drives that are reporting 4k sector sizes as is with Storage pool disks. I feel ...

Re: StarWind iSCSI SAN Version 8.0 Beta-2

On a 2008R2 system, I experience a memory problem when L2 cache was used. Everything seemed fine until the reboot. After the reboot, Storage sizes I had assigned to L2 cache were consumed in memory after the reboot. As in 100GB drive, 128k L1 cache, and 2Gb L2 cache, on reboot 2Gb of addition memory...

Re: StarWind iSCSI SAN Version 8.0 Beta-2

My previous post about the event viewer errors for the VSS driver was from a 2008R2 system.

On a 2012R2 load, I am now getting almost the same error

Re: Unable to restore LUNs with failed OS

Solved

A bit tedious but it works. I needed to attach the cache img 1st, and then I was able to attach the primary img.

Good thing I renamed and placed each img in its own directory, this allowed me to identify which cache img went with which img.

Unable to restore LUNs with failed OS

I have observed 2 different failure types, virtual drives with T2 SSD Cache, and LSFS To simulate an OS failure I uninstalled Starwind, reinstalled starwind 1) Created a new target 2) Add device 3) Hard Disk device 4) Virtual disk 5) Use existing If the virtual disk had T2 Cache attached to it, it f...

Re: StarWind iSCSI SAN Version 8.0 Beta

Thanks for the update fibifido (The smaller the size the better the DeDup) I just confirmed it... LSFS Thin, 4k can only be used with 2TB or less partitions, and... it seems the other sizes 8k,16k,32k... are dependent on the underlining NTFS cluster sizes The drive that I had formatted with NTFS at ...

Re: StarWind iSCSI SAN Version 8.0 Beta

My Experience with LSFS so far If the partition that the LSFS files sit on is greater than 2TB, only 64k block sizes can be used (all other sizes fail), regardless of the size of the Virtual drive weather 1GB or 500GB; anything but a 64k block size will fail. I initially thought this was related to ...

upgrade V6 –> V8 DeDup notes Feedback

Regarding DE Duplication your notes on installing V8 states limited functionality for older DDisks, my assumption was that it would at least be read only or reduced performance the reality is it will only display the DDisk as non-active and not usable. “Disks need to be converter to img prior to ins...
