NTttcp 10Gb test settings

Hello, I am testing the throughput on my Intel 10Gb AF DA nics between my Win2K8R2 sp1 Starwind server and a Win7 x64 sp1 test machine. The two machines are connected with a cross over cable. I cannot get over 2000 Mbit/sec over this connection which is a real disappointment. These are the options I...

Re: Looking for some peer support (5.6 performance problem)

Hello CyberNBD, I am aware of the ESXi tech support mode and currently have SSH access into my ESXi servers. Have you ever run any application from inside that console other than built-in vmware tools? Have you used iPerf from within that console. If so I would love to know how you did that. Thank y...

Re: Looking for some peer support (5.6 performance problem)

Hi Garrett, I have looked at iPerf but the problem is that virtually nothing can be installed or run from ESXi. iPerf can be run from the ESX service console but that is not an option with ESXi. This fall vSphere 5 is supposed to launch and there will be no ESX only ESXi, hopefully they will add som...

Re: Looking for some peer support (5.6 performance problem)

Hi Anton, 1) I have 1 Windows 2008 R2 server with a dual port 10Gb NIC, and two ESXi hosts with dual port 10Gb NICs. The ESXi hosts connect to the Windows 2008 R2 server with cross-over cables (no switches). I am unaware of how to do any network throughput testing from a ESXi host. If you have any s...

Re: Looking for some peer support (5.6 performance problem)

[quote="ggalley"]Hello I work for a large company that is investigating rolling out starwind to replace some of our SAN environment but I cannot recommend starwind 5.6 due to performance issues. I have also spent several weeks trying to figure out why the performance is all over the place ...

Re: Looking for some peer support (5.6 performance problem)

Thanks for the advice. I am a little confused. What type of clients were you connecting to your Starwind server? Were they Hyper-V, ESX, or an traditional Linux or Windows server? From reading the article and other MS KB pages I looked like the setting should be changed on the Hyper-V server. Should...

Re: Looking for some peer support (5.6 performance problem)

I am running vSphere ESXi v4.1u1 against my Starwind v5.6 server. I am fight very low IOPS and throughput across iSCSI when using small sized IO. With large IO I get good throughput near the 1GB barrier. If I made the advised registry change on my Starwind server would I also see an improvement?

Re: Horrible Sequential write performance

Hello, I have a very similar problem. I running a single Starwind server and 2 ESXi v4.1u1 hosts. The Starwind raid array is a 14 SSD raid 10 setup which is very fast when accessed from starwind server as local disk. I have three different NICs connected from the starwind to the ESX servers, Intel 1...

Re: solid state disk as read/write cache

Yes and No. If you have certian raid contollers from Adaptec of LSI you can buy an extra software/hardware package to enable that functionality.

Adaptec calls their product MaxIQ, LSI calls their prodcut CacheCade.

Re: version 5.3.1310 build 20100402 release notes?

That is exactly what I do everytime I want to check to see if there are any updates available. Its absolutely ridiculous that in the year 2010 the way to check for an updated version of software is to sign up for a free trial, download, start the installer and see if its newer than what you are runn...

version 5.3.1310 build 20100402 release notes?

I assume this new build was released on 04/02/2010. Can someone please post the release notes? What ever happened to the moderators creating a sticky thread where the most recent public version was posted and the corresponding release notes? That would be very helpful for the community. There is no ...

Re: RAM Caching in V5.0

What does the "Cache Block Expiry period in ms" do? My guess would be that it "expires" and flushes a block from cache if it has not been accessed with in a certain number of milliseconds. That seems like a bad idea to flush data simply becuase it has reached a time out. It would...

When you say "few gigabytes" do you mean only 2-3 GB? Are there any know problems with using more like 10-11 GB?

Re: RAM Caching in V5.0

Agreed, more info on reads would be nice. How does the cache get populated with read data? If you have a 100% read workload would the cache get populated at all? What algorithm is used to moved frequently read data into and purged from cache? thank you.
