Re: Extending basic image disk

Think I just found the answer straight after posting this, typical!

According to wikipedia, prior to Windows Server 2012 NTFS file size limit was 16TB, and I am running 2008 R2.

Server 2012 has 256TB limit.

NTFS itself has theorical limit of 16EB (exobytes).

Extending basic image disk

I am trying to extend an image file device, currently 15TB in size I am trying to extend by further 4TB. The physical disk the image file is on has 5TB free space. When I try and extend I get generic "Failed to Extend image file" message. Looking in the server log I see the following: 1/31...

Deduplication

Do you have any more information on the new deduplication function.

- I have Ent mirror and rep license and it is showing as locked i.e. not licensed in that version. Which versions of starwind will it be available in?

Re: SPTI for UDO optical drive

Hi,

Success!

The latest build you sent me detects UDO drive properly in the management GUI as an optical drvie and seems to be working properly.

Thank you for your help on this one.

Re: SPTI for UDO optical drive

Yes, but UDO drive is in use by live system which I have to shutdown to test new version of Starwind, just waiting for a convinient time to shut it down.

Thanks,

Sorry - Starwind Enterprise Unlimited.

I have SPTI tape drives working fine on the same V5.0 box.

SPTI for UDO optical drive

I have been using Starwind version 3.5 for some time to serve a Plasmon UDO optical drive via iSCSI. UDO drives are high capacity WORM type optical drive for archiving. When trying to do the same with Starwind version 5.0 it does not detect the UDO drive as either Hard Drive/Optical/or Tape drive an...

Re: RAM Caching in V5.0

Hi Stup, Starwind should probably confirm this but as I understand it the situation is as follows: If you create a target using the GUI and select any RAM caching options, the setting you choose are ignored and RAM caching is not turned on for that target. Therefore if you did it this way you don't ...

Re: RAM Caching in V5.0

By "not fully implemented" you mean not implemented then, or half implmented in a non working state which is even worse for an Enterprise class product ! I wish you would stop claiming Starwind has RAM caching functionality on web site, when it doesn't. I have just wasted 2 days setting up...

RAM Caching in V5.0

According to your website, helpfiles, and the GUI, version 5.0 of starwind includes new high speed RAM caching. Is this actually enabled in version 5.0? I have been doing some testing using the trial version, but even though I select "write-through" caching and set size etc... When I look ...

Re: StarWind Licensing Policy.

We purchased 2 copies of Starwind Professional Server back in 2007 with 3 years support and maintenance.

Which version (i.e. Standard/VTL/Enterprise) does this license entitle us to use now?

Thanks,

Write caching

Does the current version of Starwind do write caching when RAM caching function is turned on. i.e. would there be a risk of data loss in event of UPS/power failure?

If so is it recomeded to turn on RAM caching for all work loads?

Update

OK I think I have finally tracked down the problems. First of all Xenserver 4.0 seems to have a problem sometimes reconnecting to iSCSI drives after they unexpectedly disapear briefly. Restarting the open iSCSI service on affected xenserver fixes the problem when it occurs. I will upgrade to version...
