Is it possible to install startwind VSAN without HA?

I know this sounds like a very strange request but can you create a non HA vsan? I.e. on server with local storage, create a starwind iscsi presented volume (that will only be used on that server)? No heartbeat, lose the server or storage and lose the starwind volume etc. I have looked through the p...

Re: minimising risk of full sync starwind HA following an outage

Thank you for taking time to reply. With regards to power, I have a rather nice opportunity. I have two buildings that are connected with a pair of fibre (40Gb) and a pair of copper (10gb). The runs are just short of 70m. They have independent power, and by independent I mean one building gets its s...

Re: CHAP for vsan free - still a premium only feature?

ok. perhaps my english is clumsy. How can I enable CHAP on the free version, I cannot find the command in the powershell library? nevermind, someone else asked the same question only a few days ago. I have my answer. https://forums.starwindsoftware.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=5711 it isnt available ...

CHAP for vsan free - still a premium only feature?

Is configuring CHAP still a premium only feature or has configuring CHAP been included in the free powershell command list?

Re: vSAN manual failover to avoid split brain

I have my answer now thank you. I am happy with my hyper-v cluster setup. That part is tried and tested and works as intended - indeed I have tested this "in anger" following a failed UPS stress test in my primary building. I am only looking at the underlying storage technology replacement...

Re: vSAN manual failover to avoid split brain

The hyper-v clustering side I have sorted. That is already in place and a mature solution that has been tested and used with power failure. This is our CURRENT setup: We have two physical buildings, the primary building is classed as our "main" building. Internet connection enters here and...

vSAN manual failover to avoid split brain

I am speccing out a starwind vs S2D vs stretch cluster. We currently use an MS hyper-v stretch cluster with 4 computer servers and 2 storage sans split into two physical buildings. I am looking to retire this in favour of 3 storage/compute servers (HCI single box) be they in S2D or starwind configur...

Re: vsan disk pooling capability?

Just to make sure we are on the same page. What you are trying to achieve is creating 3 virtual disks (i.e., RAID arrays) and combining them in CSV as a single iSCSI target? If so, S2D will not support this scenario. StarWind VSAN enables to creation 3 iSCSI targets and presents them separately ove...

Re: vsan disk pooling capability?

Thank you. I was hoping to reuse some of the larger capacity drives when I convert our SAN to a new storage model (I know I could simply create a second or third pool and present CSVs from those pools). Im weighing up S2D vs starwind for the nodes at the moment (the hardware will be the same, I supp...

vsan disk pooling capability?

Does starwind have an ability to create a pool of different sized disks and present a CSV based on the pool? I.e. the hardware presents three virtual disks - vdisk1 1Tb, vdisk2 2Tb and vdisk3 3Tb which starwind could "pool" the storage of 6Tb total. With this pool a CSV presented as 6Tb?

Re: query on replication for clusters

The thing I do not quite get is why using physical shared storage alongside a virtual SAN. Since this is a running system I will need to phase the transition: A) system uses Microsoft Storage Direct Stretch Cluster with replication. B) create a vSAN and present as new CSV c) move storage of VMs to ...

Re: query on replication for clusters

I think (in the short term) I will cold store "node 4", install "free starwind" storage and compute on nodes 1,2,3. SAN1 will be presented to node 1,2 with one LUN created just for starwind. Node 3 will have SAN2 presented with identical size LUN created just for starwind. I will...

Re: query on replication for clusters

Each SAN is a physical box of drives - SAN1 is a Dell Powervault MD3220, SAN2 is a Dell Powervault MD3200. Each SAN has a mix of SSD and HDD (10k/15k) and connect using DAS SAS - iscsi is NOT available on either SAN. Each node is a physical Dell R630 server. Each node has a HBA SAS card and connects...
