Re: Scale-Out to # Nodes

Thanks for the example. What would be the advantage of this over just bringing up additional 2-node clusters that are separate and are not linked in this fashion? Thanks - Greg

Scale-Out to # Nodes

Hi - now that I have a working 2 node solution, I would like to start planning for expansion. I have read your whitepapers on 'Scale-Out', but I have not found any practical examples of how StarWind handles this. My goal is to plan for additional nodes that would have the same disk layout as the fir...

Re: Windows Corruption in VM

Hi - that resolved the issue! Now that all interfaces are part of the replica's node interfaces, no corruption occurs everything works as expected. I tried disabling one, two or all three and everything works. Rebooting the nodes work as well. I will go back to testing using Jumbo frames now. Thanks...

Re: Windows Corruption in VM

So if I understand correctly, ALL available interfaces on each node should have at least a heartbeat enabled for each replica? Would this take care of split brain issue in the event that any one or more interfaces drop out? Thanks! - Gordon

Re: Windows Corruption in VM

Hello - I eliminated the Jumbo frames and went back to 1514 MTU size on all NICs including ESXi vswitch and the same corruption occurred. Once thing I did not mention earlier is that I have the management interface on a separate 1 GB nic (main Windows NIC/IP). So three NICs in all - 1 GB Management,...

Re: Windows Corruption in VM

Hi - Just performed the same thing all over again but with 'no caching' on the StarWind disk. Same corruption occurs. So I am guessing that something is causing the nodes to think they are in sync - split brain. Is it because both adapters are not going off at the exactly same time? I am disabling t...

Re: Windows Corruption in VM

Hi - I did want to mention that the Windows VM is 2008 R2. I just performed the same tests above but with the Windows drive write caching turned off, and the same corruption occurred. Once thing I am noticing is that when I disable the networks on the node 2 and then I copy a large file to the windo...

Re: Windows Corruption in VM

Hi - I am using: - 10 GBe QLogic dedicated to iSCSi/Heartbeat ( 10.0.10.1 and 10.0.10.2 ) - Jumbo frames enabled (9000 Frame Size to match ESXi 9000 MTU) - 10 GBe QLogic dedicated to Sync ( 10.0.20.1 and 10.0.20.2 ) - Jumbo frames enabled (9014 as recommended by MS) Node 2 is the .2 for both interfa...

Re: Windows Corruption in VM

Hi - I setup a Write Through version of the above (first post) and applied the ESXi changes to the IOPS setting and MaxDiskSize. I did a fresh VM, Windows install, and then started playing with the network and nodes while it was applying updates. Once it finished I rebooted again, and again the same...

Windows Corruption in VM

Hi - I setup a Physical disk in SW - 60 GB, 1 GB Cache, Write-Back mode, 512 Sector, and added a replica. I mounted this disk as storage in ESXi as a datastore and then setup a Windows 2008 R2 Guest vm on this iSCSi disk. While the windows VM was on and applying updates, I started performing some fa...

Re: My Setup:Guidance

I like that. Free it is! :) One quick question on the ESXi multi path - I tried Round Robin for the multi path policy and it seemed slow, but switching to Most Recently Used seemed faster. I read some blog posts that mention Round Robin default iOPS are limited by default, but can be adjusted. Is th...

Re: My Setup:Guidance

Thanks for the info. So, if I wanted to sell the web tool, I would need to restrict it to the 'paid' versions of StarWind Virtual SAN, correct? Thanks - Gordon

One more thing on the MPIO - do I need to enable MPIO within Windows where StarWind is located? Thanks - Gordon

Re: My Setup:Guidance

Fantastic! Thank you for your responses. I have one other question regarding the PowerShell/Component Library. I am a software developer and I am writing a web based monitoring app that utilizes the StarWindXLib.dll so that I can easily view my nodes/HA Devices and their status graphically. Is this ...
