ok, so apparently all this time I was using a scale out file server for the wrong reason. The reason i'm using it the way it is now is i was trying to avoid having a virtual drive for a VM nested inside a starwind virtual drive that is sitting on a raid array.

ok, this is fixed. I went through and re-installed the latest starwind on both of the nodes and things are once again working. I'm thinking there was an upgrade issue, or something broke on some of the software. I uninstalled it, rebooted it, deleted the starwind directory, and then re-installed it....
