VSAN Variants

Hi! I'm looking for a brief description for your VSAN variants and their architecures. E.g. the release notes are mentioning OVF and CVM (OVF could be Open Virtualization Format but what is CVM?) versions with notes about Linux kernels updates while it's obvisiously that it can't be affect the "...

Re: HA device timeout error

2. StarWind VSAN 8.0.15260 installed an old version installed, we will plan for the upgrade soon. What version do you running? I can remember we had the same issue after installing Version V8 (build 14947) but I can not say from which version. The seperate active/active cluster was running fine aft...

Re: 1-Node Multipath Confusion

Ok thanks, I think I was a little bit confused because of the bevahiour of our 2-node active/active installations. I had to add the second path via the property menu of the active session.

1-Node Multipath Confusion

Hi, I've installed SW on a 2012R2 physical host as a iSCSI target für testing purposes. I've created a target (mutlipath enabled) and a device. The server has 2 NIC ports for iSCSI traffic each on a seperate subnet. The physical initiator host has it's own NICs too. I added the target portals with b...

iSER experimental?

Hi, I'm planning to upgrade our 2-node SW Cluster with SSDs and 10Gb. I've read some StarWinds publications was pretty happy that SW supports iSER (with capable NICs). For testing purposes I installed the latest release (trail) on a test system but during the configuration I've noticed that enablein...

Re: How to monitor remotely?

Hi Boris,

I've already plyed with the example scripts. But what I'm missing are information about the number of active/inactive synch channels, status of the partner node(s) and so on.

How to monitor remotely?

Hi! Currently I only monitor services that access starwind devices, thus implicitly the availability of starwind. But I would feel better to monitor the status of HA devices directly as well. First I had a look at the Windows Event Manager. But you have to keep realtionships between old and new entr...

Procedure Recommendation Change RAID Layout

Hi, one of our HA clusters (2-Node, CSS, 3TB) consists of two servers each with a RAID6 storage subsystem as data partitions for the img-files. (OS and Starwind Service are installed on a dedicated RAID1). Because I don't expect a high increase of data the next time I want to change the RAID6 layout...

Any benefits of more than 2 sync channels?

Hi, I wonder how Starwind utilize the sync channels. Formerly I thought that the total utilized throughput(!) of the sync channel are more or less equal to the sum of all available sync bandwidth (assuming the sync channels have the same speed and the storage is able to handle the I/O). But from my ...

Re: Dynamically enable or disable L1 cache?

Hi, is it safe enough to disable the WB L1 cache on only one node to survive a following complete power failure or do you recommend to do it on both nodes? In case of the second scenario it really becomes tricky because without a built in logic in Starwind it's hard to define which node starts with ...

Re: Dynamically enable or disable L1 cache?

Hi,

while it's not possible to dynamically change the operation mode of the L1 cache what procedure could you recommend to perform this in a 2-node converged scenario?

CHAP issue with VMware 6.5

Hi, I need some assist with setting up CHAP with Stawind v8_12658 and VMware 6.5. I've set a golbal CHAP PERMISSION (user & secret, 16 chars a-Z,0-9, no mutal) in starwind. When I try to connect with VMware I can't get authenticated. You can assume that I do not have used a mismatched secret! Fu...

Re: ESX 6.5 - Configuring Automatic Storage Rescan?

Thanks for the clarification. Maybe a remark with a short explanation in that technical paper would help somewhat. Aynway, I've tried some settings and found that it's an issue(?) with the CHAP settings in VMware. Because I've set a global CHAP challange for the initiators in Starwind I've set "...

ESX 6.5 - Configuring Automatic Storage Rescan?

Hi, I'd read the technical paper (https://www.starwindsoftware.com/resource-library/starwind-virtual-san-hyperconverged-2-node-scenario-with-vmware-vsphere-6-5) because it's the scenario I want to use with a 2-node (compute & storage seperated) SAN, active/active. While reading the part with the...

Re: MPIO Policy configuration / Loop Back Accelerator

Hi Orest, thank you for your comprehensive explanations. Regarding the loop back accelerator I guess my problem was my view on the network design. As far as I understanding now the lo acc is only usefull and boosts your (virtual) bandwidth if you run Starwind on one or more hyper-v servers directly....
