Re: VSAN Cluster not synching

Thanks for all the help. Looks like we are up and running. We are just weeks away from moving to a full hardware storage system so we won't needs Starwinds but you guys have been a great help! As to that first link not sure what I'm missing. When I set it up I recall setting it up according to the S...

Re: VSAN Cluster not synching

Here are the logs from both servers. Please let me know when I can delete them. Server1 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1pgPOv2F90CbrHevIANWgtExHhQAVMeur/view?usp=sharing Server2 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1weLhD5SO0bd01Cc049e6J0DEpmYTVMH5/view?usp=sharing I'm going to wait to force the synch u...

Re: VSAN Cluster not synching

Not completely sure when they fell out of synch, sometime over the weekend so could be up to 48 hours. This is little to no IO occurring between these servers. IOPs is 0 and network traffic is generally in the KB over a 10Gig link. I am making a copy of the drive files before I implement any forced ...

VSAN Cluster not synching

We have had a two node VSAN cluster running for a year now and were supposed to go to a hardware solution well before the license expired. Because of the pandemic all incoming hardware was very slow to arrive and we still haven't been able to implement it. In the mean time the license for our Starwi...

Console License expires and everything stops working??

We’ve been using this software under the realization that once the console license expires the services will keep woring in ‘free mode’, correct? This morning I’ve received the notice that the license expired but the services are not coming online. The iSCSI servers are not running on either machine...

Re: Slow performance on one of two servers

After finally finding time to reboot this machine the performance problem has not cleared. Do you have a particular set of parameters you want me to use with diskspd? I am working with it now and will post some results soon. Edit: The issue has not completely cleared but I have to acknowledge that i...

Re: Slow performance on one of two servers

You are correct. Windows Server 2016 Xeon E5-2630v4 192GB RAID6/Read Policy:Always Read Ahead/IO Policy:Cached IO/Write Policy:WriteBack/Access Policy:Read Write 12x WDC WD4002FYYZ0 hard drives I followed one of Starwind's own how to articles on setting these servers up. They are set up identically....

Slow performance on one of two servers

We have two identical servers set up with Starwinds iSCSI and running shared cluster storage. In testing after discovering the slow speed it is not RAID array related. When copying a large file from server to server over a 1GB link any server copying to the server in question the average speed of th...

Re: Change cache after creation?

Thanks.

Is there a significant speed increase adding an L2 cache? Or would simply adding more L1 cache be the best option?

Re: Change cache after creation?

Thanks. Which service needs to be restarted when changing cache? Your article states that the service needs to be restarted but not which service. There are four 'Starwinds' labeled services on my servers. Virtual SAN or Cluster Service would be my guess. Also which SWDSK file do I work with? There ...

Change cache after creation?

Is there a way to change the cache settings after creating the device? Our currently clustered devices each have only 256MB system cache and no SSD cache. We would like to bump that up on the RAM cache and are considering installing dedicated SSDs on each of the two cluster servers to get better per...

Re: New build/testing

It is possible to setup MS Failover Cluster with two nodes, no third node is required. With your software correct. With Microsoft's Clustering service there is a need otherwise your software wouldn't be necessary. To avoid long synchronization time on disk creation, create your disk as a sma...

New build/testing

We have two Win2016 servers and after exhausting research as to how to set up clustered volumes for Hyper-V with MS Clustering we found that not only can you not do it without a third server but Starwinds will do what we're looking for. Note that we are sticking with the free versions of Starwinds O...
