Re: Need Help - Setting up a 3 node VSan

Everytime my system starts resyncing the latency across the board jumps up to 100% and about half my VM desktops are almost unusable. I've tried turning down the "Synchronization Priority" but that doesn't seem to help much. I have dual Infiniband loops for sync/heartbeat. What are some th...

Re: Need Help - Setting up a 3 node VSan

Thanks. I didn't expect a reply back so fast! 8) It always takes me a bit to remember where that is and I didn't remember if there was something on the Starwind side either. Fortunately I set it up when I started. Again, I just didn't remember. There are a lot of little pieces to this complex puzzle...

Re: Need Help - Setting up a 3 node VSan

Before restarting the service or rebooting StarWind VSAN VM, make sure you have active paths to both StarWind VSAN VMs (i.e. Round Robin policy is used). In your case you seem to fbe using Most Recently Used policy, which does not give you active paths to both nodes. I highly recommend you change i...

Re: Need Help - Setting up a 3 node VSan

Thank you for your reply. In your previous message, when you said I have a problem - when I setup the new replica it didn't ask me for the cache memory and set it at 1 MB. I'm experiencing high latency numbers now. Could you please clarify how did you replicate it? Yes, I created the new replica fr...

Re: Need Help - Setting up a 3 node VSan

If the node I do this on is the "master" what happens exactly? Is there an easy way to "move" the master? Could you please explain more what you meant by "master" here? If "master" meant node priority, it has no influence on the operations you need to perform...

Re: Need Help - Setting up a 3 node VSan

You can change cache setting, by editing StarWind devices header files. I hope this will help: https://knowledgebase.starwindsoftware.com/guidance/changing-and-disabling-l1-cache/ Make sure to backup original headers, stop StarWindService before changing headers and do this procedure on both nodes....

Re: Need Help - Setting up a 3 node VSan

kb9jlo б The procedure you described looks reasonable. Let us know if you need more information. I have a problem - when I setup the new replica it didn't ask me for the cache memory and set it at 1 MB. I'm experiencing high latency numbers now. I'm assuming because of this. And now this new replic...

Re: Who has control?

Hello, kb9jlo, thank you for your question. Yes, you are right, these are connections to the host. As I see you have 2 iSCSI connections to DECSESXi11, and 1 to DECSESXi10 and DECSESXi12. Could you please clarify if you are using hyper-converged infrastructure? I'm never quite sure what you mean by...

Re: Who has control?

I was also curious - is there a way to "move" which node is serving up the disk?

Since I have three nodes and three disks - would it make sense to have one node each serving one of the disks?
For example: Node A has Disk 1; Node B has Disk 2; Node C has Disk 3...

Who has control?

I'm 99.9% sure I know the answer to this question but I just want to double check... When I'm looking at the iSCSI sessions for a target, you'll see the sessions for each of the nodes, then on some targets you'll see connection to VMware servers --- I'm assuming that means that particular target on ...

Hi, kb9jlo I hope this guide should help: https://www.starwindsoftware.com/technical_papers/StarWind-Virtual-SAN-Hyper-Converged-3-Node-Cluster-VMware-vSphere.pdf Please see below the main steps how to restart StarWind nodes (for installing Windows updates, etc.): 1. Re: Need Help - Setting up a 3 node VSan

You can connect StarWind image file to the existing target Storage1, If it is available on disk. Try this: Add Device(Advanced) --> Virtual Disk --> Use an Existing Virtual Disk --> Attach to Existing Target --> Create. The other alternative would be replicating this image file from the other node....
