Re: How to exactly check the Device Health from powershell?

Hi dgl72,
I believe you can ask Serghio directly about the script. Or modify existing scripts according to your needs :)

Hey Pete,
Did you check the connection speed with the help of, for example, iperf?

Re: Next generation Lab Cluster - Design Considerations

Hi!
I found an interesting review here:

I guess you need to read this :)
Maybe I am mistaken but as I know Mellanox does not support iSER on Windows Server 2019 yet.

Great, I will try the similar scenario.
But I have one guess. What will happen if one of the physical drives fail?

Re: new lab installation and sync speeds seem low: 200 to 300 mbps

Wow, you did a great job. So performance of the drives via RDM/Storage Spaces was fine and no issues. IO and IOPS seemed aligned with the speed of the drives, will no roll out a full cache + storage array and see how that will perform. Can you give more details? How did you make the configuration of...

Re: Performace one big vs several small

I would not agree with
1] Deduplication is not ideal for virtualization - you should avoid it when deploying virtual machines
Actually, it can help to save space.
But in general, you gave good explanation :)

Hi!
Had no hands-on experience with exactly the same hardware, but I bet the guys from StarWind would advise following their recommendations when setting up all this stuff.

Re: L2 cache vs. Tiered Storage Spaces

Hi crawl, I read your post and have some suggestions about it. In case if you use StarWind flat image disk with L2 cache, it will improve reads, because of cache in Write-Through mode by default. But for RAID 10 you need at least 4 disks, that is why in your configuration I think it will be RAID 1 f...

Re: PowerShell to recreate replica?

Well,THAT was interesting... It looks to me that, in a (Server 2016) two-host cluster, if I stop the StarWind VSAN service on one host, it automatically stops that service in the other host as well! Am i imagining things? Kind of makes me wonder how we are supposed to proceed, if we want to keep th...

Re: Best Volume/Partition Allocation for Hyper-V

Hello, The best options are depending on your Production needs. As far as I know, Starwind doesn't care about the number of VM's inside. I hope links below will help you. https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/1b13945c-b2ca-4336-b375-c25ed1473b8b/hyperv-cluster-best-practice...

Re: Again some questions about LSFS devices

Dedup helps, but if you have a lot of similar data.
As I can see, LSFS technical description is the same for new version https://knowledgebase.starwindsoftware. ... scription/

As far as I know, flat devices doesn`t have a dedup.

Try to delete LSFS device(not the physical one) and create new device based on existing files.

Could you double check your NIC`s?

Just try to ping it from hyper-visor to the SAN.

Re: Again some questions about LSFS devices

I think it depends on your storage(HDD`s)

If you have enough performance on your drives, I would choose flat files.

Anyway, choosing HDD`s for your production, you should look into your possible options.

Re: Encryption

I think that it is up to each system. You can try BitLocker and Starwind l1 cache and tell all of us the results.
As far as I know, Starwind recommends 1GB l1 cache per 1TB storage.
