Read only

Hi All

One of my disks has gone into read only mode in Virtual SAN. How can I get it out of this mode?

The disk is 480GB in size and it has 150GB free.

Thanks!

Re: Storage design considerations

Dear xy67, Thanks for your reply. Over-provisioning is 200% (LSFS files can occupy 3 times more space compared to initial LSFS size) and to avoid any troubles in the future this we need to create 596 GB LSFS Device. I am not sure I understand you properly. How do you want present 1.7 TB storage (if...

Re: Storage design considerations

Hello xy67, Regarding ReFS: Of course, you can use ReFS instead of NTFS. But, ReFS is a new file system and it can be "unstable". In you case, I would recommend to use NTFS. If your total size of Underlying storage is 1788 GB we can calculate maximum recommended size of LSFS. 1788/3 = 596...

Re: Storage design considerations

Hi Ivan I'd like to avoid RAID5 so will be using RAID10 for the best performance. The capacity isn't a concern (especially using dedupe). So if I have 8 x 480GB (447GB usable space) then in RAID10 I would have 1788GB (8*447/2). So in Starwinds using LSFS and dedupe I'd need about 14GB of RAM and I'd...

Storage design considerations

Hi All Been using Starwinds Virtual SAN for 9 months in my lab and am really happy so thank you :D I I'm going to be doing some changes to my storage shortly and wanted to ask a few design questions before proceeding. Currently my Starwinds Virtual SAN server has 32GB of RAM and an LSI 2308 controll...

Server log errors

For the first time I checked my server log and was quite surprised by all the errors in it such as: I have hundreds of these that repeat themselves: 1/18 18:11:28.470 1c68 Sp: *** CStarPackCore::DeleteEx Logical error. Empty VirtualLBA[3800415] These also appear quite regularly: 1/18 19:07:20.864 1a...

Infiniband + iSER

I currently have two ESXi 6.0 hosts that connect to a Starwinds Virtual SAN iSCSI SAN that is running on Windows Server 2016 Datacenter in my lab. I'm using 8 x 1Gb NIC ports in the SAN for iSCSI/MPIO and have 4 x 1Gb NIC ports in each ESXi host. I direct connect the hosts to the SAN (ie: no Etherne...

Re: Vaai Questions

Hello Xy67 StarWind is now in the process of deployment StarWind R5. R5 might be ready in month. Have great day. Is there still a new version coming out to resolve this issue? Is this update still due quite soon? I too am having poor performance with storage vmotion and cloning so am eagerly lookin...

Re: Dedupe question

Is it possible to change the write back cache amount from 4GH to 2GB without recreating the device?

Also does Starwind Virtual SAN support IPv6?

Re: Dedupe question

What is the recommended write back cache amount to set when creating an LSFS device with dedupe? I've been using 4GB but is this too much or little?

Re: Dedupe question

Thanks Michael It is a problem with this switch. Something to do with port/packet buffer size. I have since connected my ESXi host to the SAN directly via "crossover" cables (bypassing the switch) and it is much better so far. I must be dumb because I'm still not getting the sizing of the ...

Re: Dedupe question

Hi MIchael The Flash cache has been designed for read-intensive environments (where reads more than 90%). It is recommended to set its size as 10% to StarWind device size. For example, for 1TB device, it should be 100 GB. So, it is up to your Production requirements. There are no issues with dedupli...
