Re: Encryption

It might, I didn't know if Starwinds natively had it available and I didn't know what the performance hit would be. I found a post from 2013 saying that encryption was going to be in the upcoming version 8. Is BitLocker the only way, if it is, would increasing the L1 cache help mitigate possible per...

Encryption

Does StarWind offer the ability to encrypt image files? I know it is possible within the VM but because of some technical hurdles it is not practical for me to use that solution.

Thank You

How can you tell if your free license is for 1 node or 2

Hello I applied for the free two node license, which I really appreciate that Starwind's offers. What they sent me says in its description 1 node. In the StarWind management console it says Virtual SAN 1 Node Free. This would look like to me a single node license and not the free two node license. B...

Re: Migration from stand alone to 2 node

Appreciate the info. Do you know if this can be done with Windows 2008 R2? Or am I going to be forced to move to server 2012? I am more familiar with the iSCSI side, I hate the idea of having to rebuild the SAN again when I just got it running so well under Windows 2008 R2 with the new version using...

Re: Service Unavailable

Thank you for the info. That is disappointing. So with a Single node I can do iSCSI, but if I want to mirror it I have to do SMB or NFS. Pardon my ignorance, does that mean I also have to move to Windows Server 2012, thats something I really don't want to do if I can do this with 2008 R2.

Thank You

Re: Migration from stand alone to 2 node

Sorry to ask again, but will we be force to leave iSCSI and use either the NFS or SMB solution and upgrade our Starwinds server to 2012 if we want to implement two node mirroring under the free license?

Thank You

Re: Service Unavailable

Is this also true for the free version if you are using VMWare and want to mirror between two nodes? We currently use iSCSI and it works great with one node. And we too are using Windows 2008 and don't want to go to 2012. The only difference is our hosts are vmware. So are we going to be forced to u...

Re: Migration from stand alone to 2 node

I do have a couple questions.
1. Any estimate on when the next build might be initiated?
2. So for the free version we are not forced to go to NFS, we can continue to use iSCSI for the two node scenario?

Thank You

Re: LSFS Production ready?

Ok I am feeling a more confident about using LSFS. I was able to go in and edit the image file SWDSK for each device and edit out the references to the L2 cache, then restart the Starwinds service and the LSFS for each device came up and passed the mounting process. So apparently if you lose intenti...

Re: LSFS Production ready?

I just had something happen that has shaken my confidence in using LSFS for production. I just rebooted our test server after our L2 cache wasn't performing as expected and we wanted to try different segment sizes, so we re initialized it and reformatted it. Which of course removed the cache files. ...

Migration from stand alone to 2 node

Hello I am hoping someone will be able to give me a clear path as the options seem to have changed with different versions of the software and how its marketed. Also first let me say I love what we have been using so far and appreciate the folks that let small companies get their feet wet with share...
