Re: LSFS volume grew, filled hdd, now datastore EMPTY??

Hello! Our R&D guys were working on eliminating the issue and we can be sure that it is solved now in our latest builds. Thus, there is no need for the utility any more. Is that standard Starwind support policy, fix the issue for future builds, sorry if you were already impacted? Yes, that is p...

Re: Problem exposing Physical drives

Hi! From the logs it looks like the device that you are trying to export is busy by some process, not related to StarWind. That is actually exactly why using virtual disks is better than exporting entire hard drive. I would add mentioned above possible performance issues. Also using virtual disks g...

Physical Disk As Target

I was thinking of using a physical disk as target instead of files and sharing it with 2 VMWare hosts. Advantage is that I can access the drive storage directly and volumes are managed by VMware instead of SW.

Is there anything else I should be aware of? Advantages/disadvantages? Recommendations?

Re: LSFS volume grew, filled hdd, now datastore EMPTY??

Speaking about V6, you are free to use functionality of V6 in V8. V6 did not have LSFS and L2 cache, thus simply using thick .img files with L1 cache will provide you with V6. Guys who lost data using LSFS, i am really sorry for you, but next time i would suggest you reading LSFS specs and configur...

Re: LSFS volume grew, filled hdd, now datastore EMPTY??

Oh, yes. Now I remember. The last string that made me move everything off the StarWind SAN was when memory usage was 100% because StarWind was using all 32GB of it. Data access became very slow.

Re: LSFS volume grew, filled hdd, now datastore EMPTY??

I feel pretty lucky I did not lose much data due to this LSFS flop. I discovered this problem in July or August 2014 and saw no fixes. Kept a close eye on data stores and changed some to thick provisioned image files to prevent filling up the 8TB drive and losing data. Eventually, I decided to take ...

Re: LSFS and growth on disk

Does this build 7354 address the aforementioned issue?

FYI, I have received no replies from the Alexei, Artem or Bohdan about anything since Oct 20 and Alexei said he would have something the end of that week.

Re: LSFS and growth on disk

Great, the sooner the better!

After the upgrade, will StarWind automatically shrink the disk files or will we have to recreate them and move the data?

Re: LSFS and growth on disk

When do you think you'll have a fix for this uncontrolled growth?

Re: Poor Read Performance

Yes. The bad part is, there is an issue with V6. Maybe it doesn't support 10GbE or the card's newer driver?

Re: Poor Read Performance

Somehow, upgrading to V8 fixed the problem.
