Re: Troubleshooting "not synchronized" status

If the disk showed bad blocks, there are bad blocks Maybe changing the replication direction is causing these blocks are not read or written currently but i wouldn't trust that disk anymore, even more because it doesn't seem to a redundant disk

Re: Starwind virtual SAN free - Performanceproblems

Ok, thanks... As said I remember there where some issues with these Nics, so we abandoned them for exactly the reason you are referring to. Maybe the lun is trying to use both vSan nodes as active optimized paths? Idealy only 1 node should be active optimized for a single lun, no? Not sure where to ...

Re: Starwind virtual SAN free - Performanceproblems

Any updates on this? Never trusted those X540-(A)T2. I remember some very old driver seemed to work much better on vmware side, but can't remember exactly when this was...

Are the Ramdisk screenshots missing?
Also your local ssd results seem "low", are these new emtpy ssd's? how are they connected? (Controller)

Re: Server 2012 R2 VMs in ESXi on SSD backed Starwind iSCSI LUNS

Maybe you can simply force esxi to see the luns as ssd. they will be marked as ssd in vsphere... # esxcli storage nmp satp rule add --satp=SATP_TYPE --device eui.80d6xxxxxxxx --option "enable_ssd" or force all starwind luns # esxcli storage nmp satp rule add --satp VMW_SATP_ALUA --vendor &...

Re: windows network connections reset after change in initia

Are you sure you have not setup multiple Gateways? Only your managament NIC should have a default gateway.
If you want 2 nics for management (redundancy), team them!

Re: Looking for advice on setting up StarWind

Hi! Since you do not have Storage Vmotion or something like that, your best way would be to backup your data (maybe use free veeam) and restore them once you have setup Starwind. This would need some extra storage but i assume you (should) use some kind of backup anyway :) Most important is test, te...

Re: StarWind discussions over at Spiceworks

Hi, i'm also back here :) One thing i noticed during testing of RC was that each new Lun (Device) needs it's own Target. Is this still the case? We have around 50 Luns in Production (Vmware) and it really is a lot of overhead to setup all the targets everything you create a lun (and a nightmare when...

Re: Memory calculator for deduplication

Hi Rob, I can confirm Fileservers are good candidates for 2012 Dedupe. 2012R2 is even much more quicker and uses less cpu. For "safety" the only thing we changed is the number of duplicates that are kept by windows. "Any chunk that is referenced more than x times (100 by default) will...

Re: Dedupe .spspx keeps growing

So you will support Unmap in the new build? Should somebody be looking for this: To actually unmap / delete unused storage from ESX (5.5, 5.1 command is slighlty different) one has to run it activly in ESX Shell by something like this: /vmfs/volumes # esxcli storage vmfs unmap -l "LUN55" I...

Re: degrading Performance

Thx, i will see that i "clean up" a bit so we have something ready for testing... Let me know You're now measuring 10 GbE performance so it's not going to have similar bandwidth and latency like SAS. However the numbers are too low so I'll ask engineers to have a remote session with you (m...

Re: StarWind iSCSI SAN Version 8.0 Beta-3

When i "delete" a Device, the .spsp Files will actually be kept on disk. I suppose this is by design, so no "oops!". Anyway, i would than expect to be able to add the device again "add existing device to target", but in the mount device dialog there's nothing to choose ...

Re: degrading Performance

Now i also turned off dedupe. So no Cache and no Dedupe. (Still seeing no traffic coming from the Backend Storage).

Atto gives somewhat decent Numbers:

But as said, almost no reads or writes are coming from the physical backend.
