Re: Upgrade Starwind 6 to latest version

So if he's stable, why upgrade? You can't use L2 Cache, and you can't use LSFS, so whats the benefit? There are NO performance increases what so ever.

Re: Upgrade Starwind 6 to latest version

If it ain't broke don't try and fix it. Read the forums over, V8 is a complete disaster. LSFS still doesn't work properly, L2 Caching has not been disabled in current builds. If you want higher performance there are better ways to go. I went with freenas and have been able to build a couple boxes wi...

V6 vs V8

I'm curious if people are sticking with V6 or upgrading to V8?

We want to run HA, but given HA, L2 and LSFS aren't working yet, are we better to stay on V6 instead?

Re: Survey: Are you on v6 or v8?

We are running V8, but we're on a special beta to test for performance of thick disks. So far we've had great success, hopefully it will be released soon. We split our san into 2 LUN' for our iscsi VM's. We are able to receive traffic from 4 servers to the 2 luns and hit about 800MB/s.. it works well!

L2 Cache Max Size

Whats the maximum size for L2 cache? if I set it to 1tb it crashes? 512mb works fine.

Re: LSFS/L2 Problem?

I would also like to say thanks, this is much better support than before having them access the box directly to diagnose it.

Re: LSFS/L2 Problem?

I got in touch with one of your engineers, he was able to get on my system and identify a bug. So we're just waiting for a fix now.

Re: LSFS/L2 Problem?

The problem here guys is that you provide *no* documentation for recommended setups. ie raid stripe sizes raid levels, etc etc. I do more experimentation to see if I have it right than anything else and at the end of the day running cachecade with raid 5 or raid 10 and a physical disk to vmware vs a...

Re: LSFS/L2 Problem?

I'll be honest Anton, I don't care about io meter. I was trying to move a thick disk from my starwind san to an all ssd drive and the performance was beyond terrible. 2 hours to move 80gb. I've given up on lsfs it doesn't work. we're playing around with the L2 caching because I think it shows promis...

LSFS/L2 Problem?

Here's the scenario. LSI 9266 controller, 18 WD Black Sata drives in a Raid 10 array, 64k strip. 6 60gb samsung ssd's, in a raid5 array (i know shouldn't run ssd in raid5) with 64k stripe. We have 64gb ram in the server. In windows both partitions for the radi 10 array the l2 cache array are formatt...

Re: RC L2 Cache

I think our PCI disk is defunct. I pulled 2 of the ssd's out out of the cachecade volume as we had 4 and i'm testing with that. Two intel ssd's mirrored are just as fast as 8 sata drives...pretty crazy. So if we have to reboot the san or we don't survive a power outage we will loose whatever is in t...

Re: RC L2 Cache

I'm just doing some tests. We have 8 2tb sata drives in raid 5, 64gb ram, lsi controller with cache cade enabled running 4 256gb ssd drives and a PCIx 120gb ssd drive. Running thick with 48gb l1 cache and 110gb l2 cache we are seeing some interesting results moving vm's on and off the san. Moving of...

RC L2 Cache

We're not really interested in the lsfs function as we just won't have enough ram, how is the L2 cache and thick disk working?
