Starwind Heartbeat lynchpin results in all paths down

Hi Everyone, I spent a bit of time with starwind support last night, and they confirmed for me the following behaviour is by design: 2 Physical Starwind Nodes In each server the configuration is: 1 x 10GB, Dual Port Nic. First port handles replication channel (Crossover), Second port handles ISCSI r...

Max Virtual Disks?

Hi Guys, Whats the maximum number of starwind HA virtual disks that you have tested with v8? Is there any recommended maxims for optimal reliability? We currently have ~13 HA disks each 2TB in size, this will grow to 50+ over the next year. We are just using flat image files, no CDP, dedupe or LSFS....

Server Crash after ESXi Path Change

Hi Everyone, I change the preferred fixed paths on 4 of our ESXi5.1 servers today for one of our starwind LUNS to point at the secondary starwind HA NODE today, and within 10 minutes the primary node went offline entirely, with windows reporting a bluescreen/bugcheck. Now I have all eleven LUNS doin...

Re: Correct procedure after planned downtime

It would really be good if there was an option to determine the last HA member to write to disk and auto sync based on that member being the primary. While I haven't installed v8 yet, I've been bitten by this issue multiple times in v6. If we have a power outage and both HA members shutdown cleanly...

Re: HA Write Performance

I'd say it's a little early to say that for certainty but I know where you are coming from. I'm doing a lot of lab work at the moment and even with my 2 x 1GbE sync channels, synchronisation does seem lower that gut instinct feels it should be. Even synchronising a disk the first time when adding t...

Re: HA Write Performance

Hi Anton, What do you mean by a symmetric config ? I dont see how I can make the backbone any faster, I cannot saturate the links between the SANS, nor improve the transactional performance with hardware - Ive installed 2 10GB crossovers between the sans for the backbone link using solarflare adapte...

Re: HA Write Performance

Agreed, which is why I have 2 x 10Gbe Sync channels, with crossover optics by Solarflare & Arista. We also use SSD caching at the hardware level, but the reality is if the additional overhead is in the networking between the SANs, SSD caching does not help even if I switch it on for writes. The ...

HA Write Performance

I have discovered after testing our v8 SANS that when you compare write performance of a virtual disk running on a Single SAN, with a virtual disk running in a 2 node sychronous HA configuration, that the write performance of the synchronous storage is around 50% or less as show below. Is this norma...

Re: Cant Create HA Device in V8

Yes, I can create HA devices <2TB OK, so I will settle with that for now.

I have also found a few more issues, but nothing critical. OK If I post them on the forum?

Do we have a new release candidate yet? I am desperate to put SANS into production.

Re: Cant Create HA Device in V8

Thanks, I have sent you the log via email just now. The build is StarWind iSCSI SAN v8.0.0 (Build 20140225) as show in the logs. There is no mdmp file in the install folder. I think I may see part of the problem, in the log its saying in the log that the HAImage1 device is not allowed by the license...

Cant Create HA Device in V8

Hi guys, I lodged a case with starwind support a week ago, and havent heard anything back #00009166. I tried using the latest version of v6 on new server equipment, I was unable to format any LUNS from vsphere 5.1 using emulex controllers. So rather than wait for a fix (ive used older versions of v6...
