Cache flush time

Regarding L2 and L1 cache and flush times. We found a parameter in the configuration file named CacheBlockExpiryPeriodMS and need more information about that. Is it possible to define cache flush time differently on read and write? Using L2 cache of several TB we do not want to flush that after a fe...

Re: Performance Best Practices - V8 and Server 2012 R2

Great initiative What L1 cache size is recommended What L2 cahce size is recommended How many sync channels is optimal for X bandwidth. Example. 1 x 10 GBit iSCSI need 4 x 1 GBit sync. (In my lab with v6 and v8 beta I found that >3 x 1 GBit sync channels gave better performance than 1 x 10 GBit sync...

Re: degrading Performance

I don't understand what you compare. Raw disk performance vs. StarWind mapped disks and tests running inside a VMs? Can you elaborate on a a) hardware config (interconnect diagram) and b) what you actually do. Thanks! Yes, we compare raw disk performance with the performance we get from different l...

Re: degrading Performance

Do you happen to have any Intel I/O Meter benchmarks for your storage setup? The bad Starwind performance can be explaned with 512 blocksize of vhd and Raid5. The Storage spaces setup far to right is unsupported. We run 2 LUNs from a HP Raid controller and the 2 SSD disks from the SSD, a total of 4...

Re: degrading Performance

Just an FYI regarding storage spaces ... I've done some testing using storage spaves vs the standard (Computer Manager) mirrored/striped options. What I found was the native method was always faster than storage spaces. This is without using flash based caching. I personally decided that storage sp...

Re: Can you create HA devices atop of Storage Spaces?

Software is in beta and we actively discover incompatibility issues. So flash cache was working in Beta-2 but was removed in Beta-3 (for example, data corruption found). The same about Storage Spaces and 4KB blocks - issues found and now it's not possible to use this combination now. But we're work...

Re: Can you create HA devices atop of Storage Spaces?

Native 4KB underlying blocks should work with V8. From my experiences: You cannot currently use StarWind atop of Storage Spaces because Storage Spaces creates 4k Blocks. StarWind needs 512bytes. I tried this yesterday on Server 2012 R2 with Storage Spaces. Had to switch to LSI RAID based card inste...

Re: High Performance Storage

We are having the same problems with extremely slow performance on RAM disk. About 200-300 MB using Atto bench 4-8 MB transfer size on localhost. Our system is an old HP DL3800 G5 with 22 GB RAM with 10 GB dedicated to RAM disk. 8 x 3 GHz cores. Windows 2012 core. This old server is used as testing ...

Re: Problems installting on windows 2012 std core

New feature found :)

This is not our production nodes, just to test and verify stability of v6.0.

We have problems to configure HA. Seems like when though the option is available the setting is not accepted to run HB and sync on same NIC.

Re: Problems installting on windows 2012 std core

Ok, an explanation and solution should be great. We are aming on upgrading all of our hyper-v 2 node clusters to v6. I enabled full gui on the 2012 server and after that the installer worked. Might it be that the installer shecks if there is a "gui" on the server and then run the installat...
