Re: Automount this device (Greyed out)

Anton, this has worked wonders thankyou for taking this on board.

I created 2 x 10GB on my test box and wiped, added some data, rebooted... Mirrors reconnected.

Gave it a good thrashing afterwards and alls well :)

Cache Allocation and Virtual Memory

Will starwind use virtual memory for cache when it runs out of conventional memory? e.g. 3 targets using 2 GB cache on a machine with only 3 GB RAM. I have seen it allocate 2GB for the first target but not for the other 2 targets... even though virtual memory should make this possible? Might sound a...

Re: Configure StarWind Free Edition - iSCSI SAN for use in ESXi5

Make sure your firewall settings on windows are laxed for the Starwind ports / service.

W7 FW can be a pain, and the network location is worth looking at as well, should be home/work and not public.

Re: Starwind Target becomes unresponsive

Are you using a single target for both hosts to access at the same time? Obviously this would have the cluster option set on it, if so.

Re: iSCSI initator differences

Their free initiator only has the features there to fit in with the rest of the stuff that's built into windows server, RADIUS, IPSec, iSNS, mount points, CS Vols, MPIO (for the cluster network). When it comes to doing anything out of the ordinary, as usual, you have to look elsewhere! You should ta...

Re: iSCSI initator differences

The starwind one is better in general! Supports RAID 0/1 & JBOD over iSCSI - something you can't get away with doing using dynamic disks in windows.

Although the windows client does have full MPIO support and integrates well with WSCS!

Re: number of sectors per block (question)

Thanks for that, just what I was expecting to hear if I was wrong about the "application" being higher level. I will do some tests with SQL and report back, in any case I think that the stripe/AU size (or a multiple of) will be best. I'm not using RAID at the moment but I will be placing a...

Re: Automount this device (Greyed out)

Hi Anatoly, yes it's after I have added the mirror using your iSCSI initiator, when viewing preferences for the item it's greyed out.

Also, I have checked application prefs, on the mirror tab, automount is checked and the control is enabled. But it does not automount.

Cheers

Automount this device (Greyed out)

Guys, I have tried and tried different things to get this working. This check box is currently greyed out on W2K8, W2K3 and Win7 for an iSCSI mirror device (both devices remote) There seems to be no workaround to get the devices, whether simple/dynamic, to auto-mount on system startup or even get th...
