Re: SMI-S Config & Thin Provision

caz3542, When configuring the SMI-S provider, what what is the easiest way (i.e. to avoid errors) to: 1) Create additional concrete pools You can do this only through direct editing of smis-config.xml file. There is no any document for this operation, but it very simple to understand. 2) Configure t...

Re: Hardware VSS Provider for version 6

jhamm, My question is regarding my volumes created in v6 before the upgrade to v8. Does the StarWind Hardware VSS Provider only work with new LSFS devices, or should it also work with my older Image-based devices created in v6? Every VSS Provider can work only with storage devices that supports snap...

Re: Hardware VSS Provider for version 6

Looks like maybe the issue is I'm missing the register_app.vbs file? Exactly! You have copied files to wrong folder. In "VSS" folder you should find "hw" subfolder. You should copy/replace files to "hw" folder. "hw" folder has a register_app.vbs and other nee...

Re: Hardware VSS Provider for version 6

Yuri, I downloaded the file but it did not seem to fix the issue; I still have only the Micrsoft Software Provider listed. Were their supposed to be more files in the ZIP file you attached? There were only two files in the zip file, UnInstallStarWindProvider.bat and InstallStarWindProvider.bat. I c...

New version of StarWind V2V Converter available for download

Changing virtual machine formats on demand is not a luxury, but a real necessity right now. That’s exactly why StarWind brings V2V Converter to its customers. Most vendors have developed their own VM formats, which are not accepted by other hypervisors. That’s not at all convenient and StarWind V2V ...

Re: Windows Storage Server 2012 R2 support

I also just installed Starwind 8 build 7145 on Server 2012 R2, and was *not* presented with an option for either VSphere or Hyper-V. My license is for Hyper-V. The service that gets installed each time is "StarWind Virtual SAN for vSphere." Is this a problem? JoeyC, please send me your co...

Re: Starwind 8, VMM2012R2 and Hyper-V Cluster

Ramon,

Thank you!

IBV is no longer supported in V8 so don't use it.
LSFS should be used instead IBV.

Re: Starwind 8, VMM2012R2 and Hyper-V Cluster

rbruin, Is this a supported configuration, somebody got this working in a Hyper-V cluster with VMM? Yes, it is fully supported configuration. I just created one CSV and two "Available Storage" on our lab cluster (it was tested for case of Windows Server 2012 and for case of Windows Server ...

lvolk, Check forward and reverse hostname to IP address translation of your DHCP server (that part of your AD). There is possible problems concerned with address translation issues inside Windows-domain. Check connection to localhost 5988 (at SMI-S host). Check: is StarWind SMI-S Agent started and w...

Re: StarWind SMI-S and integrations with SCVMM 2012

Jerel, This cluster has now been added to our instance of SCVMM 2012 SP1 and I want to add the storage to SCVMM so I can deploy a private cloud. Good idea! I believe that I need to install the SMI-S agent to make this 4TB HA disk available to SCVMM. I did the install for the SMI-S agent, but I don't...
