Re: Can't add a device

The older version worked fine and didn't disable the GUI - did I download the wrong thing? Or if not that how do I define my tape drive without using the GUI?

Can't add a device

I installed the latest Virtual SAN Free download to support my Tape drive (Tape Redirector function).
When I connect to the server the "Add Device" button is greyed out and I also get a nastygram saying "GUI management not allowed by license"????
Help!

Thanks

V-San tape performance questions

I'm running Starwind 8. I have an LTO-4 tape attached to an Adaptec 29320A controller (U320) which allows a maximum buffer of 64kB. I connecting over iSCSI and taking a backup like this: mt-st -f /dev/st0l setblk 65536 dd bs=16M -if /dev/sda | mbuffer -s 65536 -t -m 50% -P 80 -o /dev/st0l The best I...

Re: Virtual SAN 8 and iSCSI MaxTransferLength

The annoying this is that if Microsemi were prepared to release the code, I could fix it in a very short time as I now know exactly what needs changing :(

Sadly their attitude is that these cards are "EOL" and they don't care to assist in any way.

Ho hum

Re: Virtual SAN 8 and iSCSI MaxTransferLength

It would appear that this may be a limitation with the Adaptec Ultra320 drivers using the Windows x64 Storport interface. http://ask.adaptec.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/17088/~/how-to-change-the-block-size-%2F-transfer-size-under-windows%3F says: Attention: Newer 64-bit versions of Windows ignore th...

Re: Virtual SAN 8 and iSCSI MaxTransferLength

Hmmm MaxSGList is already set to 0x41 (65) which in a 64k system should allow 256kB buffers. It would appear that Windows is applying an artificial 64kB limit. I'll dig to try to find how to override this. I looked at the device driver setting in Windows Device Manger. The driver is hplto.sys and th...

Re: Virtual SAN 8 and iSCSI MaxTransferLength

Michael, I don't believe that's correct, certainly for LTFS supporting LTO drives the recommended blocksize is 512kB, and I'm sure that LTO-2 drives will happily handle 512kB. See: www-01.ibm.com/software/cn/tivoli/products/download/whitepapers/wp-tsm-lto.pdf from as long ago as 2002 showing use of ...

Re: Problem with iSCSI connected tape drive

The problem relates to open-iscsi trying to send iSCI NOPOut requests while the target is busy processing the FSF request. I've changed the initiator settings to prevent it using the iSCSI NOPOut polling by setting: node.conn[0]timeo.noop_out_interval=0 node.conn[0]timeo.noop_out_timeout=0 See the o...

Re: Virtual SAN 8 and iSCSI MaxTransferLength

Trying to get my tape drive to work with a block size > 64K seems to trip over the problem that I cannot set FirstBurstLength in Advanced settings to anything above 65536

Is this something that can be changed by other means (registry for example)?

Re: Virtual SAN 8 and iSCSI MaxTransferLength

No, thats the recommendation for the old Tape ReDirector. Lets start over: The initiator currently has the following settings: FirstBurstLength=262144 MaxBurstLength=16776192 MaxRecvDataSegmentLength=262144 MaxXmitDataSegmentLength=0 What should I set the Advanced setting on Virtual SAN 8 to First B...
