Re: Hyper converged - VLAN? - Sync1/iSCSI1 etc

Hi, if you install StarWind on the "parent vm" there is no Multi vlan -> vm possible. And exactly that technical paper brought me to two vlans with Sync/iscsi combination.... At the Moment I see no real big Performance improvement doing hyper converged and loopback Scenario. Comparing with...

Creating new device - init new sync of HAs

Hi, already having some HA devices in a two node hyper-v converged environment, when I create a new device, some (sometimes all, sometimes only a couple) "old already synchronized HA devices" loose the green status and need a synchronization. Sometimes it is quick, sometimes it is a full s...

Hyper converged - VLAN? - Sync1/iSCSI1 etc

Hi, I am evaluating the two node hyper converged scenario with StarWind v8 on own hardware. 1) Is there any performance / stable differences if the StarWind software is installed on the "parent Hyper-V" environment OR inside a "nested VM" ? 2) Trying to config a dual port Chesio ...

Flash cache - Image/LSFS - Sizing

Hi, in the early versions of StarWind v8 the "L2 Cache" could only be choosed if the device was LSFS. On the latest version 8.0.8703 the wizard "Add Device (advanced)" allows the select the "flash cache" for both options: Thick-provisioned and LSFS Is this a bug or a ne...

Support for NVMe devices / Performance

Hi StarWind, nowadays more and more enterprise stroage is changing from classic harddrives to ssd (sata / sas) and the new interface NVMe. 1. Does the StarWind Virtual SAN support NVMe? 2. What would be the performance difference if the "flash cache" is on a RAID1 SAS SSD or on a NVMe devi...

Re: LSFS resize ?

Hi Alex,
thanks for the reply.
My understanding is: LSFS is not finshed yet or not to advisable for production!!!
Maybe my customers should wait until v9....
THX (at least I can stop looking for the resize button) :|

LSFS resize ?

Hi,
using Version 8.0.6884 and made 1 target and 1 device with 1TB size.
Now I would like to resize this device to 2 TB total size.

Is LSFS not able to size an existing device?

If yes, how?

Thanks

Console - v8 - missing "Back" button

Hi, it would be very nice to have an additional "Back" button besides "Next" and "Cancel".... Most users are maybe not so professional, one or more times "Back" would be great. Also an Summary Screen (what was configured before) before the "Create" b...

Download - File Names / Product

Hi from Germany, I always get a little bit confused, when downloading files from StarWindSoftware: 1) I miss the version / release of the starwind.exe file. It is a bit anoying to keep track, is the starwind.exe the 5.8 version or 6.0.5713 or 6.0.6399 or 8.0.6798 and so on. 2) I would like to know, ...

Re: Clustered Storage - Change Cache Size

Look at your "Edition"... The free version has some known and some unknown limits. I think the maximum cache size 128 mb is still in the free version. If you have a "full version" then it could depend on old ha-images. Even if you have have all features licensend, with old imgage...

Altaro Backup / redirected I/O with CSV

Hi, we have a 2node Win2008R2SP1 failover cluster, which have CSVs on two Starwind v6 HA over 4x1Gbps iSCSI connection. Making Hyper-V backups with Altaro make a VSS snapshot and takes quit a long time (up to 4hr) for one vm. What is wrong? What about your VSS provider software? It is not installed ...

Re: Failover problem after Update to v6

Hi Anton,
I could send you a zip file with the log.... How?

Additional information, could the strange behavior depend on a trial version of the hyper-v backup plugin?

Failover problem after Update to v6

Hi Everybody, about three weeks ago, I updated the classic iSCSI-HA from v5.8 to the latest v6.0. Followed the guides, check sync, update one node, reboot, wait for sync, updated the partner, restart and sync again. Everything worked fine, the two 2008R2 failover nodes did not loose any data nor eve...

Re: Backup plug-in Hyper-V - adding Hyper-V Servers

Hi Anatoly, 3.) + 4.) do you mean, I could create a huge dedup-disk on the standalone hyper-v server, use starwindsoftware free edition to "share" this iscsi-dedup-target to the failover-cluster-nodes? The 'initiate backup jobs from active cluster nodes' advice is okay, but what about live...
