Re: Why so different rates of iSCSI read/write on Win vs vmware?

These are some of very useful commands on Vsphere 5 to set MPIO RR to change every 1 iop. Now you can play and increase from 1 to 3 , 6 and 9 if you think 1 it`s too much. I left it to 1 as I got my 99% network card full utilazation on 4 nics so I did not bother to try with other numbers. Please cha...

Re: Few wishes

Just to add a wish not sure if it already exists or not. The image.img file which Starwind uses to store data for that target can we get Thin provision option on that if it doesn`t affect performance too much. I know Dell EQ has that on it`s volumes/targets. I have a datastore of 7TB but to be hones...

Re: Why so different rates of iSCSI read/write on Win vs vmware?

Please see this : http://www.starwindsoftware.com/forums/ ... 95-30.html

You`ll see what a huge difference made RR to IOPS1 instead of default VMware IOPS 1000.

I`ll try to get you the commands tonight on how to change the RR IOPS on ESX5

Re: Why so different rates of iSCSI read/write on Win vs vmware?

if you use MPIO RR with starwind just set RR to 1IOPS instead of default 1000IOPS and you`ll see the same exact seems you get with windows initiator.

Re: EXTREME Home Lab with Starwind

Ok guys it`s all good now. My SAN2 is achiving the results I wanted. I manage to 3xtimes performance from Windows VM Guest only by changing the MPIO RR from 1000 IOPS to 1 IOPS. Results: From Windows ISCSI Initiator to SAN2 Running RAID6 with 16 drives. No optimization what so ever. READ: Seq: IOPS ...

Re: EXTREME Home Lab with Starwind

so decided to go with RAID6 all 16 drives as per local speed it`s fast and also has 2 parity drives. Now I did a quick test from a Windows initiator to a target with no cache on starwind and indeed I maximized all quad nics for both read and write sequential. I am very happy with this new top of the...

Re: EXTREME Home Lab with Starwind

Hi everyone, I took a small break with new updates for my SAN2 which is the fastest one. Upgrade from 6GB RAM TO 24GB RAM DDR3( lots of ram for Starwind cache) Upgrade to the raid controller from Adaptec with 256MB cache to Areca top of the line ARC-1880dix-24 with 1 GB cache by default upgradeable ...

Re: EXTREME Home Lab with Starwind

Hey anton, Yes I applied the same settings to both. Then only to target , then only to initiator. It looks like when the target has the TCPACKFrequency to 1 then it`s the speed boost on SEQ READ by 50MB extra from 140MB let`s say to 190MB but some weird problems sometimes happend with RANDOM READ go...

Re: ESXi iSCSI initiator WRITE speed

He meant like DELL EQ has it`s own RR MPIO module path policy EMS i think it`s called or something like that...that integrates with the hyper visor [quote="anton (staff)"]How many IOPS had you configured for RR before link switch should be performed? Not sure what you mean under "own ...

Re: EXTREME Home Lab with Starwind

I dont think so because when I run same test same size 5GB on a target that`s a ramdisk it`s killing my network using all 4 Gb nics to 98% and giving me results of 450MB.. i posted them up there... So it must be something else... I am doing lots of testing and trying to figure it out. Because TCPACK...
