Re: Non Active

Please try to update to the latest build of StarWind v4. Please contact us at starwindsoftware.com/support for additional information. Thanks. Really?!?! This is ridiculous. The fix is really to download a newer/secret revision of the same software? Every upgrade starting with 5.7 has gone badly an...

Normalizing decimal notation in performance view

I know it's a very minor issue, but is there a way to change the decimal notation from European to American notation? Seeing #,## MBs per second isn't intuitive for those of us not normalized to European decimal notation.

StarWind Native SAN for Hyper-V as Classic SAN

In my environement my current StarWind SAN servers are pretty beefy and spend much of their time underutilized hardwarewise. Since I have a demand to improve Hyper-V capacity and an insufficient budget to do so quickly I am pondering two scenarios. The first is to add Hyper-V to my existing SAN serv...

Re: HA Network Failover Problem

Why fix what's not broken? I already have a working StarWind SAN/Hyper-V configuration that I am very happy with. Four Hyper-V hosts (more to come) and two dedicated storage servers running StarWind in a HA configuration. I really prefer to avoid an "all my eggs in one basket" scenario. Ri...

Re: HA Network Failover Problem

1) We'll do support all of the listed scenarios. So you're not going to be forced to pick up working way. Thanks. 2) What hypervisor do you run at this moment? I am a Hyper-V (Windows 2008 R2) shop and bounce between Hyper-V Manager, Failover Cluster Manager and SCVMM 2008 R2 as my management conso...

Re: HA Network Failover Problem

Will the additional member of the voting quorum have to be a storage node? It would be great if it could just provide a quorum. In my situation, if it has to be a 3rd storage node, it increases my costs greatly. With 100's of TB's, the cost of the drives, controllers, servers, rack space, power, an...

Re: DPM Backup of Cluster Shared Volumes Starwind VSS Provider

If only we weren't so demanding about performance, functionality and reliability. :P I'm considering using a combination of CSV and non-CSVs to resolve this issue on my end. The few DPM need servers I have will live on the non-CSV(s) and the rest on the CSVs. This way I still get the DR snapshot rec...

Re: Microsoft Cluster

I had no problems getting the Hyper-V Cluster Shared Volumes to work with StarWind. I used StarWind's documentation (to setup the SAN components) and Windows Server 2008 R2 Unleashed (to setup Hyper-V and CSVs) as my reference materials during my initial install and planning.

Re: DPM Backup of Cluster Shared Volumes Starwind VSS Provider

Unfortunately host based backups do not work in all scenarios. Backing up a Sharepoint server farm comes to mind and represents my current top priority. None of my existing host based backup solutions can manage brick level backup/restore of the SharePoint data in a distributed environment. I do not...

I'm using VLANS and mixture of private and public IP addressing to segment my data, so I do not believe this to be a Starwind issue.

Re: Random suggestions and feedback for 5.7

If you'd configure H/B to use initiator path you'd never have anything like that. In my scenario the NIC with the HB and Sync channels went offline, but both of my servers were still live and "thinking" they were now the only survivor of a failed pair. I did, but they were on the same phy...

Re: Random suggestions and feedback for 5.7

The only time I have a problem with the split brain issue with a two node 5.6 HA configuration was because of misconfigured links. I had my sync channel on the same physical NIC as the hearbeat channel. This was an oversight when I moved the sync channel from a 1GB NIC to the 10GB NIC. I forgot to m...

Re: Access Rights Rules Appearing

Yes, I just delete the extraneous rules.
I also ran into a problem where I couldn't edit existing rules, but an upgrade to a current version (at that time) fixed that problem.

Re: Some feature requests

Personally I like the ability to limit administrative access to the Starwind server. I don't currently trust my fellow domain admins to administer the SAN and I certainly don't trust my AD forest admins with this ability.
